1)Via the "System" button on your Philips remote, on your recorder (no disk in recorder), change the "Remote control used" from "DVD Recorder" to "DVD Player". Store it. (This is IMPORTANT!)

: 2)On your Philips remote press Play 159
The display on the recorder should now change to eleven dashes.

: 3) Still using your PHILIPS remote, tap in 121 212 005 255 (the last few digits will NOT be visible on screen but they WILL be there). Now press "Play" on your PHILIPS remote.

: 4)Power down your recorder, wait a few seconds and Voila!!. You now have a region-free beastie!!

: 5)..Via the "System" button on your Philips remote, on your recorder (no disk in recorder), change the "Remote control used" from "DVD Player" to "DVD Recorder". Store it.

I just got the Philips DVDR70 in a present and have tried the region-free hack that is quoted everywhere (even on Amazon) but it will not work. I've followed the instructions to the letter. Any ideas?

Well both numbers in step 3 make my DVDR70 play region 1 discs now, BUT it will not play UK discs now.
I NEED HELP, Tafsir, or anyone quick please.
What number makes it Multi Region, or at least back to Region 2 (UK)?

The first number gives Region 1 not multi.
The second gives it back to region 2

Are you the only person to get it to work Tafsir?
Can you refer us to the web site you got it from?

For other makes useually one ends up inputting a 1 for region 1 and 2 region 2 and 3 for region 3 etc.
Ending up with 0 for multi region, should your number end with a 0?

After you change from DVD Recorder to DVD Player in step 1, do you enter the Play 1,5,9 within the System menu, or do you exist from there first?

Hi Tafsir or anyone else who can help
Amazon replaced my Philips DVDR70 and I have followed their, and your instructions to the letter. I can get it to play Region 1 by using 001 at the end of the code but the player will not accept 255 as multi. Any suggestions or should I just return again and get a better machine?

my neighbor has a dvdr70 and i can't multiregion his unit either ?

using the philips remote method did'nt work, and using the kamelian one for all remote with the magic 085 did'nt work as well !!

tried both methods exactly as per instructions, no joy at all.

wierd thing is i can't get the dashes up on the display using the magic 085 method, even though the unit is in player mode and the one for all remote works fine with it, ie on/off, channel change etc.

i even done a firmware update in the end but still no joy !!!

whats annoying me is a long time ago i done a 980 and dvdr70 using the magic 085 method and they worked fine, but i think at the time i also could'nt get the dashes up on the display, but then i done something and up they came, and i can't remember what i done.

    damm fustrating !!
