has anyone tested the Philps DVD Q50 ? Any comments
This months What tv and video carries a full report. They gave it 9/10 .You could try logging onto their website to see if the review is posted there.
Can anyone tell me if the european model Q50 has Faroudja DCDi chips inside and has component and scart connections.
Also is it multiregion, RCE friendly, operates on 240v and output PAL as PAL and NTSC as NTSC.
I had e-mailed HifiBitz.com but i've had no reply as yet because they advertised it as having Faroudja DCDi de-interlacing for progressive scan output but i read somewhere that it is only the american model that has this feature unless philips have re-designed it.
Steve, hifibitz are still advertising the Q50 as being progressive scan, have you heard from them yet.
Steve where are you from ? I am from Sigapore & the Q50 here has all the stuff you mentioned, except the part of RCE friendly.
I heard back from HiFiBitz and they informed that the Q50 uses Faroudja FLI2200 but doesn't use Faoudja DCDi chips.
The unit will output PAL as PAL and NTSC as NTSC.
I'm based in sunny Scotland!
I think i will hold off on this player as there have been problems reported at AVSFORUM of the player freezing up on certain disks.
The new Denon players (3800 and 9000) sound promising going by their specs but i think i will end up going down the HTPC route.
Check out the Q50 from Hong Kong here
