Has anyone been able to find this player in Europe? I know that I can buy it from hivizone.com but then I have to pay a lot of money to get it through customs.

I haven't been able to find it in PAL prog version in Europe.

Then again I don't think you will.

    Why?

Because the progressive capable 962SA units are for US/Asian markets and they will be shipped the first (shipping + customs + taxes at that end).

Then they need to be shipped back to Europe (shipping + customs + VAT here in Europe again).

There's hardly any money to be saved if some entrepeneur did try and re-import that Asian players.

I think you're just better off ordering from Hivizone.

Also, it comes with global Philips warranty which at least in Finland works ok.

    cheers,
    Halcyon

Even though it's been modified? I guess you'd have to pull an innocent face and tell you have no idea of a modification of any kind? Or isn't Philips strict about this?

Hope for a friendly local AV dealer.
Philips official stance is that modifications will void warranty.

The players are modified through remote control commands. No soldering, no opening the cover. No one will ever know it was modified, unless they know what to test for (and most don't).

The word from Philips Finland is also:

If your player was already region-free/pal progressive when purchased from a shop, then the warranty is valid.

Warranty only becomes void through end user modifications.

I bought my player readily modified from www.hivizone.com.

Warranty should be ok, at least in Finland.

Hope I never have to use it though :)

    cheers,
    Halcyon
