Having established that the Pioneer freeview box is out of production, with no plans for a replacement, I quite like the look of the Philips DTR500. I have some specific requirements and it seems to meet them:

    1. s-video from recorder-out scart (I'd prefer RGB)
    2. 8 or more timer events (it has 10)
    3. 7/8 day EPG with timer setting from the guide
    4. Ability to turn on a DVD recorder (Pioneer 420) with 'Auto Start' (same as Panasonic External Link).

Does anyone have any positive/negative comments on the DTR500?. I gather it is fairly new.

I've had to dismiss the Sony 800 as its VCR s-video depends on a SmartLink compatible recorder.

    Thanks for any comments...... :)
