Am considering buying a Philips pf9986 but not sure whether its worth paying the extra for the 37" rather than the 32". Her in doors worried that a 37" would dominate the room. Does it really look that much bigger. Is it worth paying the extra for the 37"

It's was bigger than I expected for a 37" TV in my opinion. But it looks fantastic.

The sony and the philips both come out on the top of the pile of recent LCD screens, so you'd be happy with either.

As for size, the best thing I can recommend is some paper on the wall (or wherever you are going to put it). I did this when I was first looking at flat panels, and found that a 42" would be way too big for my lounge, so went 32"

Anyone know where you can view these, haven't seen any shops displaying anywhere. Have got the overall dimensions of the entire units (both 32 and 37) but does anyone have the actual screen sizes.

Just concerned that the 37 would be to much "in your face" - her indoors view !!!

They have a 32" at Atkinson's, a department store, in Sheffield city centre if that's any good.

I have the 42FD-9932 42" and love it. I saw the 37" as well and it looked just as good but was only $400 less than the 42"... From what I hear they are both the same beasts and the 42 has automatic switching. Would definately recommend it!!

The 32" is available and has been for a long time.
I have yet to hear from anyone in the UK has seen the 42" LCD.

42" Philips Plasmas can be seen anywhere.

    Come on 37" 7 42" LCD 9986 - where are you hiding?

Be careful - even 37" is a big step up, especially if your current set is a 32" CRT. Measured corner to corner, a 32" CRT will actually give about 29.5" visible screen area. A 37" LCD (or Plasma) will give a full 37" of visible screen. If (like me) you have an average sized living room, then avoid 42" like the plague - it will look enormous, and if you sit too cose it won't even look that good to watch ! Personally, I think 37" is a good compromise, and wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't become the most popular screen size in due course.
