After reading for weeks on the forum about the philips 9986 I managed to get
hold of one from Hispek, but when I've fine tuned it through Jimsam settings
I get people out of sync when watching sky, anybody have any ideas
on how to solve this problem or is time for a replacement already.

sure it's not just a sky problem? - happens all the time with my Sky+ box.

Don't have any problems with audio/video sync with my SKY+ and pleasently surprised that so far there hasn't been any issue in regards to the time the LCD takes to generate an image compared to the CRT I also use.

If you go to the satellite forum there are people who have sync problems with a variety of sources and displays, hard to pin it down due to that wide range of hardware.

All said and done if you are in the market for a new amplifier buying one with built in global audio delay is a wise investment.

Have you connected your Sky box to Ext1?

I think we all suffer from some lip synch problems with Sky. I notice it sometimes, but it usually sorts itself out within a few minutes. I watched some tennis last week, (Maria Sharapova and some other gal) and the ball sound was fascinating. It was sometimes nearly half a second ahead of the picture and sometimes bang on. I can't think that the TV is causing this. Maria was looking fine though....

All I can suggest is that you check your cabling and Satellite feed connections.

Sorry not to be of more help.

    Thanks for the info.

I've got sky conected to ext 1 but I'm going to check all my connections again, but it seems a problem because colinbarber has the problem but starburst is ok.

I will also give hispek a call and see what they say.

I don't have an LCD screen, just normal CRT but still get it. As jimsan said it's common for Sky amd normally changing channel sorts out the sync problem for me.

    Hi Shah,
    Slightly off topic, but....
How long have you had your set? Does it suffer from the contrast and ambilight 'hum' that so many others are reporting? I ask, as I too have been waiting to get this set for ages, but am now reluctant in view of these issues.
    Cheers
    John

John Pickles I do have a hum but unless I'm up close I can't hear it, and I've only had mine 24 hours, the contrast is fine and the ambilight is really great, everything is great apart from my sync problem

I find it's not unusual for the tennis on eurosport to suffer from this problem. I don't have an LCD TV (yet...) or even sky digital (still on analogue cable  ).
