    Hi there.
    .

    It is a 42" Phillips PLF7603D/10 chassis Q528.2E LA/LB

It randomly switched itself off the other night, and after a while i managed to get it switched on again, by forcing it to load the software update (rc menu button and power up)

I tried to load the latest philips software with a memory stick and the following occurred (not my photo, just a similar case)

I can't get into the service menu with the remote, if i short out the SDM pads, the screen just goes blank and the remote is disabled.

I'm convinced it just needs a good resetting, but can't work out how to do it.

Philips don't want to know as the unit is just out of warranty.

I have read about a file called StandbySW_CFT01_9.0.0.0.upg. It comes with the one-zip service software, but i can't find it anywhere.

    Please help!

    Please?

    Martin

I bought the TV second hand, and someone had already replaced the ambilight units hence the warranty seals were broken.

I did get it for a very reasonable price though. It has worked flawlessly for over a year until this.

I can't really push Philips too far as the warranty seals on the unit are broken can i?

I didn't even know they had warranty seals?
If it was the update that finished it off I would still have a go and point them to this forum that others have had trouble.
If there is a built in fault with updating the set it could have happened at any time. Just so happens that you updated it after the warranty.
Philips won't know that the warranty seals are broken will they? If they say anything after inspecting it you could say that you changed an ambilight after the warranty period and that is why the seals are broken. Nothing to do with the built in software fault.
Why bring out updates if they knacker the tele.
You are not asking for an under warranty repair anyway as it is out. You are asking that you can update it when necessary.
I would certainly have a go! A tele should not be done because you update the software.
How much out of warranty is it?

Does this mean they are going to look at it for you?

I have no idea. They just asked me to phone back tomorrow as most of their staff couldn't get to work this morning!

I applied the most recent update to my 42PFL7603D (Version: 000.064.072.000)last week and had a similar problem. It accepted the update ok, then restarted itself... restarted itself... restar.. you get the picture. It wouldnt stay on for more than about 10 seconds.

Philips' engineers have taken it away under warranty after sending out someone with an instruction manual and a usb stick (I wasnt impressed!). Hopefully it wont take them forever to fix it, they quoted around 10 working days.

If anyone is reading this and planning to do the firmware update.... think twice!!

Wow! another one. You definately have a good case now! And I nearly bought one of these. I am glad I went for the older 9732.

Trying to get Philips to admit there was a problem or even make me an offer to repair my TV? FAIL!

I bought an identical TV on ebay with a smashed screen for £50 and swapped the SSB over.

    Success. One fully working TV.

Case closed and no thanks to Philips.
