We're new to Plasma so have been shopping around and are torn between the Philips 42PF7520D which we can buy for £1,454 and the Panasonic 42PV500 at £2,189 and also an Hitachi 42PD7500. All are HD readt 42" Plasma and seem to have a decent spec. The Hitachi has 1024 x 1024 resolution compared to 1024 x 768 on the others, what kind of difference would this make please? What is HDMI and is it necessary? How important is the contrast ratio as the Philips is 600:1, Panasonic 3000:1 and the Hitachi 1000:1, quite a ddifference between the 3. Sorry for so many questions and there may be more before we decide which way to go! The Philips seems a very competitive price, does it have any drawbacks?

    Cheers in anticipation,
