Hi there, I'm new to theses forums so please bear with me, Ive been looking for ages trying to decide between plasma and lcd, now that I think im ready to make the plunge in the lcd direction I was just hoping for a bit of help with what peoples experience's are on various models, as you can gather my most serious choice at the moment is the Philips 37PF9986, seems a bit pricey but it looks stunning and seems to have some great specs? Can anyone tell me anything different?

    Many thanks for any feedback.

Looking at the same myself but still not sure on the 37pf9986 or the new sharp Aquos Lc37GA1E. Think the sharp has the advantage and am now swayed that way.

I bought one from these guys. not a bad price for what you're getting. The service is good too, I'm waiting for an exchange as the Philips screen does not work as I imagined with an HCPC input. Other than that though if you're looking for a not notch LCD TV this one is mint. The pic quality and the look of the thing are first class, the ambilght is well cool! Only if you wall monut it though.

I just wish it did full screen PC input... :(

I rang this company today. They have one 37" in stock but think it is sold.
They rang Philips for me and established the next availability of this model will be the end of November ?

"Siomething appears wrong in the state of Holland" - the sets are advertised on the TV and in Home Cinema magazine but not widely available.

No one has yet admitted th having seen the 42" LCD

Sorry if i appear dim, am new as mentioned before, but what is a HCPC input? Just that when i get something I like to know that i can get the most out of the unit through using various connecters and such like. I hear that the DVI? Imput is meant to be a good route but dont think my dvd has that outout right now?

I've got a 37PF9986 that is boxed & unused which is waiting to be sent back to BE Direct. I changed my mind at the last minute!!! Needed a 37" PC monitor not TV @ 37"

So they'll have one in next week unless someone else is waiting for it.

Have you considered the Sharp 37" monitor?

I'm seriously considering that monitor (Sharp 3700) as a combination TV/wall display - feed computer images through it some of the time (maybe even turned 90°, which you can't do with a plasma), then turn it back for TV... It just looks so clean and simple with that black frame...

I had an interesting drive out yesterday . Philips located for me the availability of the 37" LCD. I went to D & C Satellite in Disley near Stockport. This set was wall mounted in a display room, obviously under ideal conditions. The source of the picture was from a DVD player.

I currently own a 36" Pixel Plus Mark 1 CRT TV - the pictures are excellent.

The LCD display was really good, and wheras I may have had doubts about swopping a CRT for LCD, what I saw really impressed me.

The moral to this tale is the shop has taken the time to set up this machine and achieved their objective

    BUT

I then called in John Lewis at Cheadle. For the first time I saw the 32" Philips 9986 on display. The price was £2995 - top whack

    BUT BUT BUT

The picture was awful. No care whatsoever had been taken to ensure this product was shown off to its best advantage. What a shame.

I'm getting one of those LC-M3700 sharp monitors. Hopefully coming any day now. I'll let you all know how I get on with using it as a hcpc display.

I've got the hcpc all set up now and can't wait to finally run it to a large screen.
