I'm thinking of purchasing this particular TV and was wondering if anybody has some experience of it that they could pass on. Is it worth going for or would the Sony 36FS70 be a better bet?

I read in this month's magazine that Philips are to release a new range of TVs with "Pixel Plus" in the New Year. Not sure if I can wait that long, though. It's supposed to rival Sony's DRC

    Thanks

    Hi Dumfy

I've owned the 36PW9525 for around eight months and have to say on the whole am extremely happy with it. Some previous threads on this site have referred to a faintly visible thin black line that runs vertically down either side of the picture but I have to say I've experienced no problems at all. Switching off the "Natural Motion" facility seems to help greatly as well, so this might be something else you might wish to consider either for or against when looking at the Sony and it's DRC. Have you seen the new Toshiba 36Zp18 ?. The only way to really decide is to see these sets up and running, which is what I did and chose the Philips over the Sony.

Good Luck

    Hi Spikey,

Many thanks for the reply and info. Most helpful indeed. I've seen the 36" Sony in a friend's house and wasn't too impressed. All images, other than those from DVD, seemed quite poor. I've seen the 36" Philips set in a few shops but they didn't have it set up properly - as usual so your feedback was just what I needed. I owned a 29" 4:3 Philips previously and was impressed with that, so I may stick with Philips on this one. I gather the new Tosh is good so may take a quick just in case. Now if I can get John Lewis to price match the Philips......
Thanks again.

I'm in the same boat mate.

I've seen the philips in several stores set up with a bad signal which makes it look crap.

But in my local currys they've got it set up well and i'm glad to say it holds it own next to the sony 36".

Price wise theres a £500+ difference (online) between the sony and the philips 36"

that £500 would buy a lot of dvd's.....

Let us know how you get on will ya?

    Will do.

I'll phone John Lewis' and see if they can do a price match. The two best prices (on-line) I've seen are:
Hi Spek £1399 - no cabinet but includes vat+del
www.qed-buy.com -£1395 inc cabinet/vat/del

Anybody used these mail order companies before?

I'll let you know how I get on in a couple of days.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Hi All!

Definate good news here. Went into John Lewis's today with a print-out of the the Philips TV from the www.qed-uk.com website and they price matched it straight away! No probs whatsoever!! The JL price was £1735 inc cab & del. QED was £1395 inc of vat and delivery. Bargain or what. Plus you still get the 5 year JL guarantee. Makes a complete mockery of the likes of Comet/Dixons and their spin-offs. They were looking for at £1850. Never shop there anyway, but just use them to take a look at the required item first in the flesh.

You'll have to be quick tho' as JL are to stop internet price matching as of 2oth Oct.

The new beast arrives on Tuesday. It's gonna be even sweeter now! Used the saving to help towards the new Marantz 7200.

Would never have got this tip if it hadn't been for these forums.

    Go out and buy now!
    :)
