Bought the 32inch Philips screen on Sunday...

Is this normal. Ive noticed on black parts on the picture, especially when watching 2.35:1 widescreen movies, that the screen looks kinda pink.

Like the brightness is up too much maybe, but with a pink tint to it...
Does anyone know what it is? Or why it happens?

Or is it my eyes playing tricks on me...

    Hi Matt,

Not normal. I've certainly not noticed anything like this. If anything, as you walk around to 50 - 70 degrees fro the screen it goes blueish.

Anyway, let me check a couple of things with you. Is the tint set at normal or warm? What is your brightness setting? Is the active control on? Is the pinkness there all the time? ie on every input? Brightness wants to be mid range...best way to set it is to freeze the picture with a large area of black, and turn the brightness up until the dark areas start to get lighter. Then back it off a few clicks...

There are RGB coulour Lumina settings in the service menu, but we'll not get involved with them just yet...

Will let you know later Jim but it can look blue also at times, depending on the viewing angle.

It is kinda blue really... maybe a little purple...

    On all channels/inputs.

    Brightness 40
    Contrast 65
    Sharpness 2

Doesnt seem to make a difference when DNR is on or off...
I leave the TV in progressive scan. (dont use pixel plus 2)

Why don't you use the PP2? It's marvellous. Obviously the Progressive setting only applies to inputs to the DVI connection. The rest of the time, with the PP2 off, you are running the TV with no processing at all!

As to the colouration on the black, one of the issues with LCD's is the black level. The 9986 does a pretty good job with it - at worst it appears as a slightly off black. There really should be no colouration viewing the screen head on. Are there any room lights shining on the screen? This can cause a colour cast....

You didn't say what tint you had the screen set at.

Live with for a few days - try different settings and if you're still not happy...we'll take it from there.

No tint... I watch films etc in pitch black... which is why i notice it... mmm.
Not sure really what to do. I watched "First Daughter" on my Panny 297 thru hdmi to dvi... and close up shots with nothing in the background, the black looked bluey pinky, i guess purpleish...

Its also seems to be the four corners of the screen where it "seems" noticable.

I've had a good look at mine, and I suppose the black bits are very slightly blue/purple. Not really noticable though.

It might be worth getting your supplier to send an engineer to check it out.
