Hi all this is my 2nd post, only joined the forum the other day.

Just setup my new tv a philips 32" LCD

Im really happy with DVD XBOX and PS2 display

Sky is Crap ! Now have read other posts so I wasnt expecting it to be too cleaver, but the picture is just to BAD.

Im still using my old Grundig box (yes Grundig) its about 3 years old. I know I need to upgrade my reciever now, but im a bit stuck so could do with some help.

Now my questions to thoses in the know:

What is the best sky box to own ?

Is Sky+ any good and worth the extra cost

I have a Sony vtx-s760u and have not had any problems with it, and the picture is very good.
Also, may be worth checking your signal strength/quality, in Services - Sytem Setup - System Test.

I have just got exactly the same lcd as you. It is certainly a different style of picture than my previous Philips CRT, which i'm getting used to, although I have the ambilight/remote problem, and this is my second unit. Am waiting on a reply from Philips, to see if there's a fix or not.
Re sky signal, strength is 80/90%, quality is 70%.
I would have thought that the dish setup would be the main driver of these, although I'm not in the business.

Well iam very impressed with this new set. Although alot of people seem to have had problems with theirs,, which is not reassuring.

How good is your sky picture? havent got the sports channels yet but do not want to subscribe to a poor picture

My Sky picture is very good, including Sports channels. Some are better than others but think this is down to the bandwidth or something similar.

Does your remote work ok with the Ambilight on?
What do you have contrast/brightness/colour and sharpness set to?

yeah remote works fine all the time. TV is mounted on the wall.

havent set up the profiles yet, but out of the box:
    Contrast 90
    Brightness 37
    Colour 62
Sharpness 3 ( just turned it off cant see any real difference)

how cool is ambilight ? My mates are very, very impressed.

try turning off some of the Philips digital processing (try DNR=min; use Progressive Scan instead of Pixel Plus 2)

I find most Sky channels look better on the Philips screen with as much of the digital processing modes turned off. They don't seem to work so well with highly compressed digital channels & show a lot of digital artefacts which degrade the PQ.

    Cheers
    Nigel
