I know the Philips is supposed to be very good but I've just ordered the Samsung from Currys.

Hope to have it next week so I'll let you know (have seen a couple on and they look good and the design of the set is marvellous, plus Currys do a 14 day return policy if worse comes to worse)

The Samsung has slightly better connections for me as it has proper component video, HDMI and HDCP compliant DVI.

The Philips has potentially the better picture as it is VERY closely related to the ubiquitous 9986.

The Samsung seems to be quite a good wee set, although I haven't heard that much about it yet.

If you can live with a lack of inputs get the philips. It has an amazing pic.
I now think I should have got this instead of my Hitachi plasma...

    Jim,

I'm still looking at the 9986 but based on your comments above do you think it is worth spending the extra 400 quic on the 9986, or just go for the 9976?

personally i think the 9986 is worth £400.00 more.
i was in the same boat earlier on this week, i didn't know whether to go for the 9956 (hdmi), 9976 or the 9986.
the ambilight and pp2 on the 9986 are worth the 400.00 difference alone and thats to not
mentioning the cool look of the 9986 (imo).

which ever one u choose (philips) u r gonna get a cracking lcd which will better most tv available today in terms of picture quality.

also, the remote controls are well cool

    Kezza,

I think Chris is an even bigger fan of the 9986 than I am!

The 9986 is the best LCD on the market currently. The extra over the 9976 is only the PP2 and the Ambilight. The Ambilight of course makes no difference to the PQ technically, but it does influence the overall quality of your viewing. It is a remarkable technological advancement and together with the advantages of PP2 fully justifies the extra money.

Oh Yes, the remote really is cool...just don't fall out with the wife while shes holding it....lethal weapon!!!

One day, when I grow up, I'm going to get a 9986. :smashin:

Then I can kick back and relax with Jimsan and Chris and show off about my tv.

I know it's nothing to do with this thread :offtopic: but any chance of a picture of that remote control?? I'm intrigued

Think I'll just buy the remote.

I've got a Philips 14" portable kicking about the place, surely that's excuse enough to have that remote?!?! :)
