I have a philips 32fd9944 plasma and is just over 2 years old. It has stopped working in that the standby light on the panel flashes red and it will not turn on. To cut a long story short Philips have stated that they MAY pay for the parts once its been examined and know what is wrong with it as it is only 3 months out of warranty but that examination will cost me £100. An independant repairer has looked at it for me and he says its on its last legs and the panel is failing as it can't make white, draws too much power on starting and shuts itself off after it tests itself when starting, and to repair would be around £1200. What i would like to know is Is this common for a plasma TV that is still relatively new? Has anyone any experience with Philips aftercare, ie/ are they likely to repair this TV (or replace it!) as they have implied? obviously I am reluctant to throw away £100 for Philips to tell me to take a running jump! If I were to replace the set, which is better LCD or plasma? Thanks for any help/opinions.
