Just bought one today and want to know if the remote controls other brands other than philips stuff.
As the top of the remote has a button to control amp, sat, vcr,tv.

    I'd say that's a definate maybe.

Didn't the remote come with instructions?

Even if it does operate other brands, you're probably going to need the special codes to make it work.

    Hi Ewin

I bought the Philips PW9618 television earlier this year. My remote control also has VCR DVD Sat Amp CD at the top of the remote control. I have never tried to use this control to operate any of these auxiliaries. In the Instruction Manual it says that most of the audio and video equipment from the Philips range of products can be operated with the remote control of your TV. I have a Pace Sky+ box and Panasonic VCR (still dithering over which DVD to buy) and Denon CD so I never tried to use this function. I would imagine it will be just as they say, from the Philips range of products only. I had a Philips television years ago with a remote control that could operate my Philips VCR (as mentioned in the accompanying instruction manual for that television) but it wouldn't work with any other make.

Sorry to be the bearer of disappointing news. I hope you enjoy your television as much as I do mine and that it turns out to be a perfect one. too.

I have just bought a Philips 32PW8788 and the instructions say the controller will only operate other Philips products. Not sure if this applies to your remote but would have thought so.

    Philips stuff only, I'm afraid.
Could you answer me a question, Ewin?; when you press the blue
button on your remote, does the PIP function work (a small TV
picture of another channel within the main picture).
    Ta, Phil
