Had a look on the Philips UK site today and it seems they now have their first 1920 x 1080 screen that accepts a 1080p signal! Its called the 42PFL7662D/05. Doesn't seem to have the latest verion of Pixel Plus and is otherwise light on features, but it does have a 5ms response time!

I may have spoken too soon. If you check page 2 of the PDF file for the specifications for the set it says it will accept 1920 x 1080p under the list of 'Video formats', however if you look at the paragraph the right-hand column entitled 'HD ready' it only mentions 720p and 1080i. Also, on page 1 the document mentions 'Pixel Plus 2 HD' and in another section below 'Pixel Plus HD' (whatever that is). I'm confused!

I choose to belive this bit...

"This display has a resolution that is referred to as Full HD. With state-of-the-art LCD screen technology it has the full high-definition widescreen resolution of 1920 x 1080p"

Didn't see it mention over which inputs though.

Like the sound of Wireless PC Link

The supported computer resolution sounds wrong. Why only 1024x768? Shurley shome mishtake? I did notice the 47" PDF is different...

These don't appear to be the screens that were expected to be released. Where are the ones with the LED Ambilight canvas?

Doesn't say in above press release....their current top spec set which does 1080i only in a 1920 X 1080 panel does 1:1 mapping....would be strange, and really stupid, to change this - here's hoping.....

Think then only missing thing would be 100 Hz, but Philips tend to do well in terms of motion anyway and the refresh rate is quoted as 5 ms!

When Philips said 1920x1080p in the 37PF9731 they meant 1920x1080pixels. Maybe it's the same now.

Also "Pixel Plus" will no longer be used in the new models. The name is now "PerfectPixel HD":

I don't think they meant 1920x1080 pixels at all, I think they meant to confuse and misinform consumers into thinking they were buying a 1920x1080 progressive panel.

Philips' spec sheets and advertising do not refer to 1920x1080 pixels, they use the term 1920x1080p.

I have the impression that Pixel Plus 2 HD and Pixel Plus 3 can't handle 1080p signals. Only the new PerfectPixel HD system will work with 1080p.

They can't, that's my point. Philips' spec sheets are confusing. They make a big thing of describing their panels as 1920x1080p but it is only when you go further into the specs that you find the 'supported resolutions' section which gives the true story. 1080i is the highest.

To clarify. I obviously should have said 'some' of Philips' spec sheets are confusing. The new models do in fact appear to be 1080p panels in the accepted sense.

When I bought my 37PF9830 it was described as 'LCD Full HD display, 1920x1080p' in the product specs. Stores selling this model had point of sale material highlighting this.

Strictly speaking this was true, it was a 1920x1080p panel but it could only handle 1920x1080i inputs.
