if i buy a panny phd10, would i be better of buying 2 x hdmi boards one for the toshiba hd1, and one for my telewest tv drive, or should i continue using the vga input for the tv drive, also have one sd input which will be component ?

You could go with one HDMI board and a Tri Link HDMI switcher for £30.

Then a component to VGA cable for your component item. Seems the cheapest way.
