Despite my physics degree, and so looking at this fairly thoroughly, I still don't quite understand what phase plugs actually do since they seem to be used in speakers arbitrarily.

Can a wise person please educate me? :lesson:  :)

A quick search found this EAW I only slightly understand what they're on about. I guess a 'traditional' phase plug makes the sound passing over it from the centre of the driver travel further than the sound from the edge of the cone. Thereby bringing it into phase. The EAW one does it better somehow.

    Does that sound right?

    Thanks Avanzato

It certainly sounds along the right lines, although (as ever) the manufacturers website seems quite vague as to the actual details of any scientific details or benefits that are gained from the inclusion of a phase plug.

As I mentioned in my original post, they seem to be used arbitrarily in all price-brackets of speakers so I'm confused as to whether they really do provide any benefit!

Some things we're perhaps just not supposed to know...
