I've just ordered this from CD Wow, has anybody ealse got it? What did you think of it? This is the first movie I've come across with a DTS 96/24 soundtrack on it. The only other discs I have with DTS 96/24 are the Queen Greatest Hits 1 & 2.

Here is a link to the product fior anyone who's interested.

Yes, I ordered from CD WOW myself as have a few others on these forums..see a couple of threads elsewhere.

One word......awesome...much better than the region 2 version which is a little underwhelming, the transfer is not good

It's a good disc. Clear transfer and the DTS 96/24 soundtrack is superb. If you don't have an AV amp that can handle 96/24, it'll be down sampled to 48kHz, so the DVD can be played via any DTS amp. :smashin:

Saw this last night and it was incredible. As close an experience to watching it at the cinema (sound-wise) than most other discs.

It perfectly suited the film, given the wonderful music, and is a must own disc imo.

i saw the R2 in tesco yesterday, and there was a sign taped to the shelf underneath it saying that to get the sound to work, you need to go into the setup and change it to Dolby Stereo! Is there a problem with the audio or does it default to dts or something?

I think there is a problem with the R2 (the R3 is fine). Although the question has to be asked, why would you want the R2 when you can have it in DTS 96:24? ;)

personally i dont want it at all.. i just wondered if tesco had done it due to complaints from chavs too retarded to realise they dont have a dts decoder or something. ps - how can i tell if my av receiver supports 96/24 rather than normal dts?

No I've seen that sign elsewhere regarding Phantom but can't recall where I saw it right now!

My amp has a DTS 96:24 badge on the fascia. If yours doesn't have one have a look in your manual for the guide on your front display. It should tell you in there as it has a different 'flag' to normal DTS.

If this the first DVD to carry a DTS 96/24 soundtrack ?

Does anyone know why the R3 release carries the higher quality track but the R1 and R2 release don't.

No - Queens Greatest Hits apparently was. Why R3 ? No idea. Check out the "Other DVD" part of the forum, as I posted a list of the DTS 96/24 stuff for someone last week :)

I recently bought the R2 version of phantom and have noticed a sound dropout in both DD & DTS in three places, I've tried two different discs two dvd players and the same happens. I asked a friend to try it with a hired disc & the same happened on his system.I played it thro an arcam dv88plus & a denon avr3803 can anyone help?

It's apparently a known fault on the R2 I'm afraid. I'd contact the distributor and hopefully they'll have remastered the disk.

Just watched this (R3) over the weekend - IMHO it's about the best workout your rear speakers can get. The bass is also absolutely fabulous. The whole soundstage in fact is absolutely spectacular - I always enjoy Moulin Rouge for its soundstage, but this beats it by a long way. The first appearanace of the organ does exactly what it should - it knocks you totally backwards, and you even get air hitting you and a thump in your chest  . Absolutely stunning, and thoroughly recommended for anyone considering it.

Just got round to renting this and its sounds great, even if it was just DD on the rental version. It had dropouts in sound as well.

As for the above problem play.com have a small warning saying that the disc automatically plays in DTS and if you dont have a DTS decoder you need to select another track from the options.
Unfortunatley i have a yamaha rxv640 receiver so i wont get to hear the r3 DTS version atleast i dont i will, but would love to hear the r2, or even r1 if its worth it.
