PAL's 25 fps it is.

    132m 43s x 24/25 = 127m 24s

    Though of course RJJ was referring to an extra rather than the movie. The BBFC certifies everything; no exceptions!

    I read that little titbit in the review on either DVD File or DVD Review, I can't remember which. They just mention it matter-of-factly, but then in The US all extras are unrated so it wouldn't make much diff, but the fascist control freaks (just kidding ) at the BBFC like to check everything like Confucius says.

    In fact, I've just this minute read the review at The Digital Bits and it says in the docco there are "several candid moments where members of cast and crew swear" (or words to that effect). U cert? I believe we're talking cuts here, same as with the "making of..." on The Lost World.

    I'm also expecting the "why haven't Play shipped my Star Wars?" posts to start flying in about 3 weeks. Some folks could never be a Jedi, they've got no patience.

    I shall be purchasing a Region 1 copy. It'll be the perfect companion to my Japanese LD version.

    Still have LD boxset of both regular and special edition trilogy.

    Anyone know yet if there are any region differences on this? Most importantly whether R1/R2 sourced from the same print.

    I have an R2 copy on pre-order with play & have just noticed they are doing the R1 a pound cheaper!

    (Not worried by the 1 day difference in release dates btw)

    I'm wondering if there's going to be cuts on the UK set. Apparently in the "making of" docco The Beginning Rick McCallum swears. I don't know how bad his expletives are but if it's the "F" word I'd imagine they'll opt for a cut rather than a certificate hike wouldn't they? Trivial, I know, but that's how my mind works.

    Anyway, views on the film notwithstanding, it does look like the disc will be a good one, not least for all the SW fans. I must admit I'm looking forward to the Tron SE early next year with slightly more relish, and after re-watching Episode 1.1 The Phantom Edit again at the weekend there are still some major failings in the Lucas version, but what the hey, it's all just fantasy escapism at the end of the day.
And it's a whole 3 minutes longer aswell thanks to some more pointless CGI stuff that he just couldn't resist adding. I wonder how many of the new bits have the obligatory accompanying action figure to go with them?
Anyone remember "Bantha Tracks"?

    If what you say is true RJJ, then the BBFC will certainly ask for a cut to maintain what I assume will be a 'U' cert.

    Just had a quick look on the BBFC web site. There is no info yet on the Phantom menace DVD. Or least none I could find. Interesting thing is the running times for the film vs. the video!

    film = 132m 43s
video = 127m 24s

    So I make that a 5m 19s diff! Now is this down to the 24 vs 25 fps or not? It says there were no cuts to either!

    I recently cancelled my R1 order in favour of R2 (slightly earlier release date etc!). Hmmm.

    From all the reviews I've read, the R1 version gets thumbs up, but funnily enough the R4 version gets a pasting for picture quality. I'll see if I can dig up some links but I followed a link from the DVD Debate forum if anyone wants to do the same.

    NTSC superior to PAL yet again? Expectations too high to begin with? Hmmm, don't think I'll be cancelling my R1 copy.

    Well for those buying the R2 disc I have just noticed that the BBFC website has the classifications available. Seems like everything got a U apart from "STAR WARS EPISODE 1 - THE PHANTOM MENACE - DELETED SCENES" which gets a PG!!! So I guess that means the DVD will get a PG rating?

    Oh and the audio commentary for the main feature has a running time of 130m 33s also with a U rating. As far as I can tell all material was passed with no cuts. Which doesn't mean to say that the material wasn't "tweaked" before submission.
