I wonder if any kind and knowlegable soul can offer some advice on a problem with my fiance's Peugeot 206 please?

Every now and then when she's driving the STOP light comes on and the temperature gauge goes right to the top. However, as soon as she pulls over the light goes out and the gauge goes back to normal. The car is usually fine for the rest of the journey.

Not sure if it's related but she has also (less frequently) had a tremendous lack of engine power, almost like a misfire.

We've checked the fluid levels and all seem ok.

Could anyone possibly help please?

Some sort of wiring issue more specifically earth related which sadly to my knowledge all too common in Peugeots.

I wonder if there is a dealership nearby that is honest enough to discuss the issue to find out if it's a common complaint with an easy fix without trying to haul you in for hours of diagnostics and stuff.

Thanks guys. I had heard that there were lots of problems with lots of ECU's on 206s so am hoping that isn't the cause.

Fingers crossed it's just something loose.

temp sender switch is faulty fairly common
