I have found an ex demo Hitachi CMP4121HDE for £1699 including vat and 3 month warranty.

i was going to get the pio mxe, but with such a huge saving i could make do until the price of plasmas drops.

Can anyone tell me why this wouldn't be a good idea??

If its ex demo - how many hours does it have on it? Does this model store hours in the service menu ala Panny5?

Have you checked for dead pixels ?

    Good luck!

I will check on those things, but is the screen any good itself?

no dead pixels, he is finding out the number of hours and the video board that comes with it.

Surely this is a good deal.

Are nexnix ok to deal with?

Am i about to be made a mug of?

I would be extremely cautious with only 3 month warranty...any chance increase it to 6?

Im afraid I don't know a lot about the screen but as nathan says, I would prefer a 6month warranty at least. Try and find out whether it has had any previous repairs or damage (although I suspect they wouldn't tell you anyway if it had).

Personally, I wouldn't go for an ex demo screen but thats personal opinion

Do check on the Barclaycard T&Cs - give them a call, im pretty sure this was covered on this forum recently and the upshot was that Barclaycard wouldn't honour it with a plasma screen.

You could always try and find a third party company to try and put an extra years warranty on it... might cost you a couple of hundred quid tho.

Any ideas on a company that might do that?

Nobody will, not for a consumer. They're pretty reliable things plasmas actually, the only probs I've ever seen have been power supplies. However, my hatred of Hitachi plasma is common knowlege hereabouts! It's not a new screen, and when it was built it was done with old fujitsu technology, so it's pretty behind the times. There are some cracking deals around on new plasma at the moment, It's the close season for plasma retailing, so do some hard bargaining and get a better screen. Plenty of ex-demo fujitsu around, they come with a year's on site warranty too.

I am definately not getting it, finally got a call back from them, said they didn't know how many hours it had, but it had been used for 3 months.

Not up for that, especially with how dismissive they have been with me.
