    Guys,

Ive recently bought a Pioneer 434, but its sat in its box waiting for me to move house (Cant be botherered to replace my panasonsic for just a couple of weeks). But reading the manuals etc, im a bit concerned about connectivity.

According to the manual... the only inputs are the black/white system connectors (HDMI i assume)..... which the Reciever box is supposed to connect too.

If you do this, everything has to go then via the reciever unit (Bah.. i hate these things!.).

    Now, my problem.

If i want to run a scaler (iScan HD) or the Pioneer 868 DVD Player, i cant see any way of using either DVI (for the scaler), or HDMI for the DVD Player...

    Am i going mad ?

In short.. i cant see either a HDMI or DVI inputs on the media reciever.... Make sense?

    Advice please :)

    Thanks,
    Kev

HDMI port should definitely be on the reciever unit, looks a bit like a USB port.

Have a chat with Joe @ TMF www.tmfsolutions.co.uk (or PM 'Joe Fernand') - he knows quite a bit about the 434 and connectivity...

    ok.. thats interesting...

The PDF im reading... from pioneers web site, doesnt have HDMI on the reciever unit... but the rear panel pictures ive found online do..... maybe i will unpack and take a look.

Anyway, that may answer one question.

However, still no DVI... any way around this ?

    Thx

    ok, even more interesting..

    found a cable here, http://www2.dvigear.com/dvihdmi2mcable.html

Which is DVI-D to HDMI... i guess this will allow connection from a scaler to the HDMI port....

Thanks god for the web :)

    Any corrections appreciated. Thx

Yeah, the docs didn't get updated in time :)

Joe will be able to sell you a HDMI=>DVI cable (or DVI=>HDMI obviously!!!). This will allow you to use a DVI source...

P.S. Probs not what you want to hear, but if you are looking at scalers etc. you may have been better waiting for the 434MXE which is more of a monitor, as opposed to the 434HDE which is more a TV (i.e. with recevier etc)

I think the original manuals went out without the HDMI info. My media box (built Jan 04 ) came with a separate manual titled "about HDMI"

    Hope that helps.

    ok... ive stopped panicing :)

you maybe right, the MXE could have been a better option for me, but this HDE came my way at a price id have been mad to pass up... maybe can i do an exchange with someone at a later point.

Big sigh of relief on the DVI/HDMI thing.. i was getting worried. Still pretty poor that it only has 1 digital input though :( oh well discreet HMDI DVD Players will have to wait... my upscaled DV27 should still look pretty good (fingers crossed).

Thanks for the posts, as suggested i'll buy a cable from Joe.

    Thanks for the guidance.

kevshed, how did you get on with your scaler (iScanHD) and DV27?
am going down the scaler route myself on the 434hde, looking at the new Lumagen Vision DVI though.
