PDP-427XD HDMI and Audio out to 9800W

Hello All,
After searching through the forums I have been unable to find the answer to this question.
I will be purchasing a Pio 427XD and Philips hts9800W Home cinema system.
What I would like to know is when using the integrated digital tuner and using the HDMI lead between the display and HTS will the audio be processed by the HTS or do I need to hook up the digital Coax connector as well?
It just seems silly that if HDMI can handle both video and audio why not use it bi-directionally?

No is the answer. Is the digital out not optical on this screen? And it only works with freeview, not other inputs IIRC.

You are correct. The Digital audio from the 427XD is indeed optical.
I was also referring to this function with the freeview tuner since the other sources would be run through the Home cinema system first and the audio decoded there.
Oh well It looks like I will be hooking up the optical cable as well then.
