I'm thinking of getting a Compaq Ipaq 5450 PDA.

    Anyone got one of these?

Ideally it will have decent wireless capability for using with a wireless LAN at home (coming soon), and it will have remote PC software added for Pronto Pro stylee functionality.

My dad has an Ipaq that's around 2 years old, on of the very early models.

    Cheers guys.

Don't need this post now. But I can't seem to delete it, oh well.

I bought 5450 about 6 weeks ago. It has serious problems using 802.11b. It does not connect to two different D-Link wireless routers I have at home and also failed with Linksys wireless.

    Remote control software works.

It is otherwise still too slow.

Cheers guys. I'm going to pass on the PDA front for now, and maybe pick one up when there is 802.11g support in the future.

    Ta.

I thought that the patch last mth allowed for 802.11g

Eitherway, next mth will allow you access to Pocket PC 2003 which even has a dedicated film trailer download site, I can just use it with bluetooth, as for remote control, PDA win is Pronto Pro, so colour remote plus web access and email notification - great.

if you call customer support, they will email you and ido=iots guide to getting WLAN to work, did have mne working on peer to peer but ended up returning the WLAN PCI cards as i want a broadband wireless router instead.

Then i'll go for the bi directional NetRemote.

Great bit of kit me thinks..................

I've got an iPaq 2210 and can recommend that. It's got bluetooth but doesn't have wifi. However it does have both compact flash and sd sockets, so there's room to add a wifi card (sd wifi is apparently due soon).

It's got Windows Mobile 2003, the main changes to which are much improved wireless connection abilities. I've got an old D-Link wifi CF card but haven't tried it out yet.

It's also lightning fast because the OS is compiled for the XScale processor. I've previously had an iPaq 3630 and 3870, but this is far more responsive than either. It comes with Nevo as well, but I haven't tried that yet.

Best of all is that it's tiny - much closer in size to the 1910 than the 5540.

    It's worth considering.

    Cheers,
    Ian.
