I've just ordered a Dell 5100. This comes with just two PCI slots. One slot would appear to be wasted by the prescence of a 1x PCI-E slot.

There is no DD output via s/pdif but it does do 7.1 output via it's analogue connections. I can't make use of this because I have a DVD Audio/SACD player connected to the appropriate inputs on my receiver.

If I fit a PCI sound card that will only leave me a single expansion slot which I shall need for my Sweetspot capture card.

So the question is (apart from why did I buy this!) is there such a thing as a PCI-E sound card? I've done a Google but obviously searching for "PCI-E Sound Card" results in millions of hits, none of which are what I want!

Has anyone come across anything suitable?

    Thanks

    Dave

I didn't know there were any!

I've thought about using a USB one, but there is no firewire port on the 5100 anyway.

    Thanks anyway

According to Dell, it's an "Option"!

Anyway, thanks for the link. The USB box here looks interesting. It has digital out and in. I wonder if it does passthrough?

    I do some Googling!

    Cheers
