ive recently got a PCH a-200, and have had a few minor issues. ie not being able to play movies until i installed ihome(pictures and music worked fine), and once i installed ihome, i wasnt able to look at photos using ihome (videos and music worked fine)...

i noticed that the ihome server seems to take up a lot of processor power also.

so
what are people using on thier popcorn hour boxs.
I will try YAMJ for the movies, but is there anyting users can suggest for listening to music, as ihome seemes to be funny in that you cant seem to play an album, it seems to stop after each track.
is there anything that can allow you to queue tracks etc?

and also if there is a recomendation for viewing photos?

my set up is
1 win 2008 DC
1 win 7 PC (hosting the multimedia shares)
1 pch-a200 networked.

hope that makes sense, any suggestions welcome.

THanks

If you cannot play your video files without MyiHome running then there is a fundamental issue with the files you are playing. Personally I don't use MyiHome at all as I wouldn't want another bit of software to complicate the system and MyiHome has some formats that it cannot play (ISO in particular don't show in it).

I would first try and find out why your videos won't play without myihome. You may have particular file formats that are not supported by the popcorn. I see in your previous thread that it was xvid files you cannot play - post the output using mediainfo to allow us to see what the problem may be as I have no problems playing XVid files.

As to a replacement, YAMJ is not a replacement playback application, it is a jukebox front end so you can browse through covers rather than folders. If the file won't play on the PCH then it will not play in YAMJ either. However, there are numerous jukeboxes you can choose from:

YAMJ
Oversight (no PC required - runs on the PCH)
NMJ (built into the PCH's firmware)
UMC (you need a PC to setup and build with this)
+ numerous others

Hi Rom
thanks for that info

here the data that i get back from running mediainfo against one of the files.
1 video stream: MPEG-4 Visual (XviD) Writing Application: nandub v1.0rc2
1 audio stream : MPEG Audio (MP3) writing library: nandub build 1852/release

Let me know if you need any more info.

If you are using the mediainfo gui then select 'text output' and post all of the details (you can omit the filename ;) )

There are things like warp points etc which can cause files to fail playing back.

Hi Rom

thanks for looking at this, heres that text info.

The specs for your file look fine however, little bells rang when I saw this line:

Writing application : Nandub v1.0rc2

Some hardware players have issues with playback of files created with this application. You can try a remux, there is a guide here:

HOW to get non working avi files playing

Thanks rom
Ill give that a try, (ive converted it now, but wont be able to check if it works on the PCH until later)

will get back to you then.
thanks.

Hi Rom
ive only got a chance to check that now, so it looks like the original file, in the xvid format will play if i play it direct from a usb, likewise the MKV, and the remuxed file.

so the files look ok. with that in mind, i went through one or two documents regarding setting up homegroup sharing (i took the pc out of the domain for this) and making sure i had the correct users added to the share. (on 2 diffrent docs, one had mentioned guest, one had mentioned "everyone")

i even went as far as to stop sharing the original shares, create a new share, and try that, but again no joy.

Windows live sign in wasnt installed, and i dont think norton av is having an effect.

if you had any more suggestions it would be great.

PCH a-200

:clap::clap:
finally got it working tonight.
i may have been over complicating it.
in the end, i set the static address on the pch box (which was a bit finiky to set i thought... :() and once i re-shared out the shares, it was all working... (thank fup!)

now for YAMJ.... :) (but 1st some sleep.)

Thanks for your help
