saw this on the shelves with free full wolfenstein game,is it a con or is it a full game?
It is a multiplayer game that has been out for a bit as a free download....plenty of levels but pretty much the same as wolfy multi
Ah but is it Return to Castle Wolfenstein or the original very old game?
Some info on the follow up to Return to Castle Wolfenstein here http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68549
I believe it's Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory... a completely free download which has been available for over a month (250mb)... it's multiplayer only but is a re-working of a the multiplayer game from the original RTCW.
Now features different classes and abilities - No Lieutenants, now Field Ops who can steal enemy clothing off dead bodies. Also features campaign maps in series and experience points with a 'levelling up' and promotion system.
Have played it a lot and it's worth the free download!
do you have to play it online or can you play agaist the pc like unreal tornament bots and all that?
Yep it's online only (which is the reason it is free), it was due to be released as a full price title but they couldn't get the AI working properly so decided that they can't charge for an online only game so let it go out for free. Thanks SplashDamage! (I would have paid for it anyway)
It's vastly improved from RTCW and IMO the best multiplayer FPS game around at the moment
And the Field Ops Class does not have the ability to nick an enemy uniform - the Covert Ops class can do that (great when u get given ammo/health from the other team - say thanks - and stab them in the back lol)
The field ops class can give ammo, call for art. bombardment or call in an airstrike.
Check out www.splashdamage.com which is the developers website to learn more
Anyone have any problems with this game in determining who to shoot ?
In the middle of a fire fight I find it really hard to distinguish who is who. I know this must be realistic, but give us a chance...
If you place your crosshair over a target if it is your team-mate then their name together with how much health they have got left will be displayed.
After a bit of playing you should be able to differentiate between team-mates / enemy players at a distance without this method - it just becomes second nature!
ps. Enemy Covert Ops which have high XP points and are in disguise will display the name of your team-member they nicked the uniform off of (great when an enemy covert ops has nicked your uniform and is mingling with your team, only for you to roll your crosshair over them and see "BondyBoy" you think "that's not me" and shoot him down). You can tell them apart either by the weapon they have in their hand or by looking at your compass/radar at the top right of your screen as they will not be displayed like your team mates are.
pps. If one of your team mates is a covert ops when running your crosshair over them you will receive a big red "no entry" sign (red circle with line through it) which tells u not to shoot - most of the time a disguised team mate will be shouting "I'm a Covert Ops" as his n00b team mates are shooting him
Good luck and I'll see you in the game
I'll have another crack this evening as the missus is working late.
Thanks for the reply.
Have you compared playing this to DOD. I tried the original RTCW mutiplay as a break to DOD but was disappointed overall. Is this newer version worth a look?
I've not tried any versions of DOD sorry mate, haven't had HL installed for months now - must dig it out again. As you were dissappointed with the original RTCW we must have different tastes but have you tried ET anyway?
@ Shady, have u had any luck telling who's who in the game then? Most Axis (germans) have long trench coats on whereas none of the allies (who are we kidding - the americans) have this coat
If you like RTCW or Medal of Honour online you really should give DOD a bash , specially in it's new format.
I'll give Wolfy a try as i've got the Zone disc anyway.
