PC to Apple?

Hi, I'm seriously thinking about making the leap from PC to mac for all the usual reasons. I'm drawn to the macbook pro 15" but just can't pull the trigger. You see, on the face of it, macs seem to be underspeced and overpriced compared to pc's. I do realise that they have certain advantages that mitigate against this but...
Some sticking points are, no Blu-Ray, not a deal breaker but just seems ridiculous. Also, no HDMI output, but one uses some kind of converter thingy that I'm not sure about. Can i get full 1080p HD onto my LCD TV or not?
If i wait a year, will next gen macbook pros address these issues, my current laptop might just last that long?
So, can anyone convince me to enter the fold?
Thanks for any enlightenment and sorry if these issues are beyond banal.

Have a look at this thread it may be of interest.

Use a DVI to HDMI converter.

Don't hold your breath on Bluray or HDMI on the Pro notebooks.

As for convincing, well that's over to you ;)
