I have been weighing up my options recently in what to do with my CD collection and getting it all in to one place.

I was considering building a PC just to store my record collection on and have it sit under the TV, but have reconsidered and run and external harddisk from my laptop instead.

THe only problem I have with this is a) crappy sound card on laptop and b) no sound out.

I therefore need some form of external USB2 sound solution that provides for an optical out for connection to an AV amp.

What can I get that is out there? I guess in theory I do not need any 5.1 processing etc as it will only be used for music, no gaming.

I have recently purchased a Creative Labs "Soundblaster MP3+" from these forums that does everything you need and more.

I think they are less than £40 new.
