Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has sucessfullly managed to get
the PC input on this particular Sony Bravia model working.

Have got the correct 15 pin lead and stereo 3.5 jack lead
but when I hook my Acer laptop up to the telly the PC input
selection remains "greyed out"

Any idea what resolution I have tpo set my laptop to anyone
or am I doing something else wrong?

Thanks

Gazza

I haven't tried it yet, but the resolution if all else fails should be 1280x720 or 1920x1080 on your laptop.

Are you connecting it via the PC input or HDMI for PC? The TV supports both.

I have been connecting via HDMI and it works floorlessly.

I know it doesnt answer your question but it gives you an option..

Hi there

Thanks for the replys

My Acer laptop doesn't have and HDMI output so I am trying
to use a 5m 15 pin D-SUB lead and a 5m stereo 3.5 male-male
audio lead.

I don't know if the PC input is VGA or DVI, as I haven't looked at it yet.

Normally all you need is either a VGA or DVI cable. Set the resolution correctly.

If it doesn't work then you may have a different problem not caused by the TV.

Are you missing a setting on your laptop? Check in Display settings if it is recognising the TV as a monitor. If not, it may need setting as second, dual etc.

Hi Restorer

When I first plugged the VGA cable in it said something like did
I want to replicate the display on a second monitor to which I
clicked yes, so I'm pretty sure it has the capability to "drive" a
second monitor.

There most be some other settings wrong somewhere

If it helps anyone the Laptop Model is an Acer MS2253

Thanks

I've been using the dsub 15 pin connector to my samsung laptop flawlessly.

on your laptop, right click on the desktop and go to display properties - have a click thru the tabs (depending on your graphics drivers)

mine shows two displays in the drop down boxes, laptop and monitor - the "monitor" display is the TV - and if you've got it set to a different resolution, it shows as a smaller "box" in the middle of the display

if you use the "replicate" option, you should be able to get the same display on the laptop and the tv whilst you're setting up.

Not sure if you managed to resolve your issue, but I had a similar problem, and managed to work round it as follows: (It seems that with my laptop, the TV cannot tell that there is a signal present, even when there is...)
Press 'Home' button on remote.
Go Across to Settings
Do Down to External Inputs
Select AV Preset
Go Down to PC Input
Select it, and change 'Enable' to 'Always' (should currently be set to Auto)

That should do it.

Hope this helps (worked for me, I'm typing this message looking at my TV screen...!) :)

EDIT: Was playing again last night, and managed to get BBC iPlayer HD working from my laptop in full HD on my TV over the VGA cable - Very nice it looked too!!

Cheers,

Chris.

You will need to check that the laptop is working at a resolution that the TV is capable of running at. If the screen resolution of the laptop is say 1440*900 the TV is unlikely to work. There are plenty of screen sizes that laptops work at that TVs don't. Someone else mentioned making sure your laptop, either runs at the 720 or 1080 vertical that the TV works at or you will need to extend the desktop onto the monitor (TV) and set that resolution to what the TV uses. This can be done on the graphics control panel, right click on the desktop and select either Properties or Screen Resolution depending on which version of Windows you are using.
