    Hi all,

I would appreciate your views and opinions on this. I have been looking through the threads and on websites and I am still confused! Please feel free to redirect me to other threads if some things have already been discussed:

I am designing a new system whereby I can use a PC with DVI for playing the following:
    - video on hard disks (DivX, WM9 etc)
    - DVDs (of the standard variety, and of the HDTV variety soon)
    - games
and also get a STB + dish to access HD1 and soon HD2 content.
For video output I am thinking PT-AE700 projector (with DVI->HDMI cable).
For sound output I am thinking a 7.1 AV receiver (Onkyo or some other).
    My questions are:

    (A) For HD1/HD2
    i. to whom do I need to pay the subscription? Do I need to find a local distributor/satellite shop? It's not clear from the HD1 website.
ii. How do I get the CA card?
iii. Is QualiTV the only stb I can use? I've heard they are v.expensive ($500+). Is there a list of compatible stbs I can look through?
iv. What about MPEG-4 compatible stbs? It would be better to get an MPEG4 stb, as I am planning to have the whole system completed by June 05 anyway.

    (B) Any issues you foresee or suggestions you may have for the rest of the setup are welcome. I don't aim for a very expensive system, plan to fit all this within a £4.5K budget, including some Kefs KHT2005.2. Or £3.5K if I use temporarily one of my existing PCs, which is not too old (and still plays WM9).

Long questions I know, thanks for reading :):)

Why get an STB when you've got a PC connected ? A PC DVB-S card is waaaay cheaper than the STB. Get one with a CAM slot, either built-in, or as a daughter card, and you're good to go.

Thanks, sounds good, any brands or online shops or links etc?
    Will it play MPEG4?
