Does anyone know if there is a way to communicate like xbox live when playing online pc games. I am currently trying Enemy Territory which plays great, but I really miss the chat and banter.

Is this option restricted to certain games or is there the ability to run some sort of communication software.

Can anyone recommend any other games that include the ability to comunicate with other players.

    Thanks

ROger wilco is another one, but rely's on base stations. I play dod quiet a bit and this has voice built in, tends to be used more in clan play than on publics. You will need a reasonable sound card as some arnt able to handle using the speakers a mic at the same time, think its called full duplex. Most cards do this apart from dsome real cheap ones, I use a videologic sonicfury, think they are around £30ish, combined with a real cheap headset £10 dixons. I would like to get another mic and use it with my senheisers (sp?).
    All the best

Stay away from Roger Wilco, it was good but it's been bought by GamesSpy and now apparently contains spyware.

Comms is not standard on most PC games yet and you have to use 3rd party software such as Ventrillo or Teamspeak (both already mentioned above). There are a couple of FPS games in developement which are offering in-game comms - inspired by the xbox games no doubt

In the meanwhile comms is mainly used for Clan matches, if you've got a few mates who play the same game you can play together while taunting or helping each other.

My headphones and microphone unit cost £3 at a computer fair!
