Just noticed that someone is selling a pb10 on ebay!

I am still undecided as to go for the box or cylinder, Ron at svs says that for my roomsize( 17ftx11ft ) the pc ultra would be the ideal choice, At the moment my kef 30b does a fairly descent job, but it is now 6 years old and its time to move on and up.
I would imagine that changing up from a kef 30b to a pc ultra would be a very big step up. or is it overkill?

The PC Ultra is fantastic, and will fill your room quite well. I personally do not think it is overkill and would trust what Ron says.

I second what Kazman says. IMHO, which is certainly matched by others experience here and elsewhere, one thing which SVS do not do is oversell. All you seem to get is good sound judgement borne out of their knowledge and experience. Unless you are set on a box (which you don't seem to be), then I'd take their advice. That's easy for me to say of course, but then I've been in your shoes before, and well at the end of the day I was very very glad that I did :)

Quite the opposite, I'd be going with a PB12-Plus/2 or the Ultra version, especially if you like your movies loud. You'll be able to bottom out a PCU in that size room quite easily, unless you stick to 20hz tuning. (I'm talking LOUD here though)

    Headroom is your friend:)

LOUD LOUD LOUD to bottom out the PCU in that room size :)

My listening room is larger, and haven't bottomed out my PCU yet, mind u, I haven't taken it to reference, taken it to -5db, but that was just too loud, if I took it any higher, I think the house would have collapsed :D

I think the reason behind the sale is due to WAF :), he even quotes he is selling due to size LOL!

I reckon the seller doesn't 'really' want to sell, hence the very high starting bid :D and only placed the ad to appease the other half, I've done this a few times by having a massive starting bid knowing it wouldn't sell and hence being 'forced' to keep the item  don't tell the wife of my tactics though heh heh :D

Bottoming out the PC Ultra? That's not headroom it's headbanging!

Even in our large open space we have never knowingly bottomed out our humble 16-46 PCi. My wife listens to rock at a steady 100+dB with the sub gain turned up 6dB over "flat". Which is also our usual action film setting.

We often see 107-108dB uncorrected on the RS SPL meter on music and film on bassy bits. :D

I would suggest the PCU works best at 20Hz tuning and the extra low end oomph from plugging ports is just wasting good dBs if you really like it that loud. Corner placing will usually also drag the last few drop of SPL from a "bin". Ours is yards from the corner and still doesn't complain.

I'd agree there. But if you have it, try the Telarc DTS sampler, Jurassic Lunch, with the sub tuned to 16hz and played @ -5db. Then you really do know the limits of the PCU. I'm a headroom freak anyway:)
