Quick question members a friend of mine was trying to refund a item to a buyer in 'Asia' he first sent a PayPal gift which went unclaimed and then at the weekend started the process of a full refund after I showed him were this could be done in PayPal.

Problem now is this morning the gift he sent has now been CLAIMED and the refund is still processing via echeque. He's fearing he's likely going to lose double his money.

Only advice I've given so far is to contact the buyer and explain and hope he's honest enough to return the PayPal gift and await his proper refund via correct system.

thoughts?

It's all down to buyer honesty, but then again, your friend can always contact Paypal and see if they can cancel the payment. I'm not sure if there's an option to pause or cancel a refund but it's worth checking!

Might be worth going to his Paypal page, on the "my account" section, then select "history", select the refund transaction (the 2nd or official one not the gift one) and then check for something like status/order/actions etc, It may give you the option to cancel it, I've never had to cancel a refund so can't be sure, once its actually gone through you'll have to rely on the buyers honesty by sending a "request money", or open a dispute to claim the refund back, that would need to be opened within 45 days of the original transaction.

thanks!

I've told him to contact the buyer which he's done to explain there will be two payments lets hope for some honesty from the buyer. Its not great deal of money but doubled it wouldn't be nice to lose at all lol
