I want to buy a new pair of speaker stands and found these Partingtons: http://www.partingtonspeakerstands.com/stand_1.htm

They're made to order only and cost 300 quid. That's quite a lot of money so I'm hoping they'll be the last pair of speaker stands I ever buy. Has anybody got any experience with them?

I would also recommend you check out the Atacama R724 Reference stands. I have pair which I using to support the Acoustic Energy AE1Mk3s. They come with a 1/2" steel bottom plate, spirit level on the top plate, top spikes, rear panel cable management and 40 kg of filler material. Overall they weigh about 30Kg each when filled and offer superb isolation. They are available in Satin Silver, Graphite and Matt Black finishes. They come in at £280 and are available from most Atacama dealers. If you live near Edinburgh you might want to pop into Sevenoaks (my store) to have a listen to them. I have attached a picture of the speakers i am using and the Atacama stands below.

Oops, just noticed you are nowhere near Edinburgh. You should be able to find a pair nearby where you are

Thanks for the recommendation. Those are lovely looking speakers. There's a pair of R724 on eBay at the moment so I'll be keeping an eye on them. Though I do prefer the more understated appearance of the Partingtons.

My Dad has a pair of the super dreadnoughts for B&W 805's. Ugly as sin but totally inert. Hand on heart, I cannot say how much more they add over my SE24's (at half the price).

The thing is I can get a second hand pair of SE24s for about 30 quid, so I'm wondering whether it's worth spending 10 times more! How sturdy are they, I mean do they flex at all? My current stands are about 12 kg each (sand-filled) but still wobble a little too much for a liking.

They might wobble if you happened to drive into them.

    LOL!

I'm also looking at the HNE Cableways stands which are even more expensive and are made of granite. This is getting silly now!

If you're spending money then how about the Kudos S100 or the LS3/5a stand from if designs.
