Parked lorries with doors open?

Does anyone know why lorries park up and open their rear doors?
I often see them in laybys in the mornings with the doors open.

The only reasons I can think of are :

Showing people that they're empty so they're not done over
or
Airing them out for damp/heat purposes.

Always bothered me...

A sign that they are loading or unloading so they dont get a parking ticket.

Do you live near a port? You could have found a place were illegal immigrants get off :)

It is to show they're empty. The drivers that deliver to where I work often park on our Estate overnight and they do it mainly with the curtain side trucks as they bad guys used to slice them open with a knife to see if there's anything inside. Result - a large bill for new curtain sides.

My dad used to be a lorry driver in Australia, and would leave his doors open along with his german shepherd in the back.

I suppose the German shepherd could only tell people to go away in German
(Verschwinden sie - or similar).
Maybe he could bark a few commands at potential intruders.
Hope he had his shepherd's crook with him.
