    Hi all,

I recently came across this integrated amp, which has been released just recently by Parasound. So far from what I've heard and seen on the internet the reviews are really good. Has anybody had a chance to try it? Any opinions would be much appreciated.

My speakers are KEF R900 and I'd like to replace my Roksan Kandy K3.

This is a well regarded amp for the money with Improved ESS Sabre32 Reference DAC (ES9018K2M).

I think few amps will match it in that price range for Power, Features, and Quality. Yes, there are better amps, but count on spending more and getting less.

BlueWizard, thanks for the reply, I don't think the link above is for the correct amplifier though. There is the new release the new release which is called the Hint 6:

Parasound Halo Hint 6 Integrated Amplifier

Does anybody know if there is much difference between the new and the old models? Looking at the specs there is barely any difference

The Stereophile Review is from 2015, so it covers the original HINT Amplifier, but hard to find reviews on a just released model.

I think the HINT and the HINT 6 are basically the same amp with minor improvements. I don't know the specific differences though.

One minor difference is that the New version has TWO Optical inputs.

Here is the back panel of the original version -

Here’s the info from Parasound site:
New Features (Changes from the original Halo Integrated)
    • Burr Brown analog resistor ladder volume control
    • Dimmable front panel volume display
    • Updated USB receiver is Plug and play with Windows 10 and MAC
    • An additional optical input (2 total)
    • Ball bearing supported solid aluminum volume knob
    • Programable default turn on volume setting
    • Favorite volume memory with remote control button
    • Increased phono stage gain for lower output cartridges
    • Improved Left/Right channel separation and balance tracking
    • Updated cosmetics with subtle gold highlights
It seams it’s almost the same integrated amp with only minor changes.
    Best regards

    Hi...

Parasound never expected the original halo integrated to be the big success it is. It was a combination of their dated, but very good sounding P5 pre amp, but with the addition of a modern Ess dac, mated to a power amp section designed by John curl which stood mid way between their A21 and A23 power amps.

But after the success, and parasound struggling to meet the world wide demand for this amp. They have set upon bringing the dated P5 pre amp up to modern spec. So there is a new parasound P6 pre amp now. And the new hint6 is a combination of the new P6 with same 160W power amp section from the old hint.

I have the older hint and iam very happy with it. Loads of power on tap, and sounds mellow, and authoratative at the same time. Will buy the hint6 again, if my present hint ever broke down.

I think you’ll find that the changes to the preamp section are worthwhile. As Newlash says, the older one, whilst obviously up to the job was a dated design. The new electronically controlled volume control should add a bit too.

Always wanted a big Halo. Consider me jelly.
