    Hi All,

I've got the chance to buy a Parasound 2205A second hand but I'm not going to be able to hear it before I decide.

It's a much more expensive amplifier than the Rotel RMB-1075 that I'm using now but that's no guarantee that I'll like it.

Has anyone compared the Parasound to the Rotel? Does anyone own the Parasound? Any comments?

    Your help much appreciated.

    TIA,

    D.

This amplifier is imho by far the superior to the Rotel, i have listened to it on several occasions.
The Rotel is "budget" by comparison.
These occasionally pop up for very reasonable numbers (1500.00 or there-abouts)
The larger RB1095 is a nearer match but i still much prefered the Parasound.

Parasound HCA2205 can whack out some huge sound.
I am of the opinion that it is a better when used in the Multichannel environment as opposed to stereo duties.
However, it has excellent build quality & great dynamic sound.
Steve's right, you can pick these up sometimes (2nd hand - ex demo) for good prices:smashin:

It has driven both my Dynaudio Pro monitors & M&K 750's with ease at insane levels.

    A very capable performer indeed.

I must say that on the one occasion I got to listen to a Parasound HC2205 I really didn't like it very much. Now, granted, the two amps I was comparing it to were the Arcam P7 and the Meridian 558, both of which are substantially higher up the chain than anything from Rotel. But nonetheless switching from the Parasound to (particularly) the Meridian was very much a case of "oh, that's much better!"

The Parasound gave the impression of having an enormous amount of power in reserve, but it didn't seem very precise. I don't think I would want to listen to music using it. But either of the other two I would be very happy with.

I've never actually listened to any Rotel amplification in any of my travels, so I can't comment on that.

I don't know if you'd noticed, but cosmetically the new Parasound amps have changed. I don't know about internal differences.

Would there be significant sonic changes between old and new to create differing opinions on performance?

I have also seen a couple of these pop up 2nd hand, and personally think would be a fantastic buy.

    Hi All,

Well on the whole, I'm getting positive feedback about the Parasound. Nic is the only one so far to cast a shadow but we know how picky he is ;)

The 2205A has recently been replaced by the 2205AT, hence the cosmetic changes. According to Parasound, the changes are merely cosmetic and the electronics are the same.

    Ahem.

I'm not the only one who objects to its musical abilies, I'd say.

    Hi David

Tho i dont use the 2205 ive heard it on a few ocassions and thinks its a cracking amp, i use its little brother the 1205 and thats just supurb. Possible the only downside for me is it can be a tad bright but i think thats more to do with the tag shining though or even the QED SA, But music in tmsuround sounds pretty fab though it.

Nic, i dont think Adzman is saying its bad at all or douts it but is just saying its better in multi channel, its just a case of taste as i dont like arcam amps a great deal, not that thier bad i just dont like the warm laid back thing but thats my taste and not a critism.

    cheers
    lee

So in the bass region only are Parasounds more tighter, controlled & quicker?

Thanks for the reassurance Beekeeper. And thanks to everyone else for their comments.

I have infact bought it. I sent off the cheque this morning.

Still a little apprehensive having never heard it but hey, what's the worst that can happen?

As supplement to (the all knowing) Beekeeper and i felt the only one to answer your original Rotel/Parasound comparison question.

(due to your most recent post) - Have confidence in the money you have recently spent.

In fact (if you got it at a fantastic price) if you don't get on with it (yeah right) then perhaps you would give me first offer (at an even more fantastic price)

    Steve
