Parallel parking at its best :)

How about be a gent and give her a hand? Such a simple thing. Nope. Easier to get a few laughs on YouTube. Maybe they did really offer a hand, but no need to film someone's lack of ability.

It is only car parking at the end of the day, but this is quite sad. :-(

Was pretty funny.

How the hell did she pass her test!

I thought parallel parking was part of the driving test, my guess is she's never taken a test, either driving with no licence or somebody took the test for her, it happens

Think you need to read the video description again ;)

There was a better video than this about 10 years ago, here's the scenario:-

Couple trying to parallel park in a green Citroen AX, they try for close to 15mins, with sometimes one half of the couple outside assisting in the manouvere, now you are wondering why is this any different?

After they finally manage to get the car in they enter the car directly in front and drive off!!

It may be just parking and funny but nobody seems to mention weather she is a responsible and safe driver. That footage alone should be enough to prompt a mandatory extended test.

This person could of park the car albeit with little more time and accurate, considerate and driving.

This is a simple manoeuvre which requires little thinking but key is the position of the vehicle at the start and the point of turn. The slower you do this the better its completed.

I don't think it's funny, I would question her examiner and if she has passed he instructor.

You don't have to do all of the maneuvers in a driving test. A lot of people are surprised that you only have to do one. The parallel park can also be replaced with a reverse park into a parking space if the test centre has its own car park.

If this person has passed their test it's my guess they got lucky.

How's that? I said maybe they did really offer a hand. (I read the description before posting).

Think you need to read my post again. ;-)

Well you contradicted yourself, you said "How about be a gent and give her a hand"?

But you then said " Maybe they did really offer a hand"

Why "maybe" they clearly said they did :)

I have not seen the video so don't know how old the person is that is trying to park the car, but depending on when they passed their test, it may not have been a part of the test requirements - it certainly wasn't when I took my test over 20 years ago

Well i passed my test 29 years ago and you could certainly be asked to do a parallel park manoeuvre on your test.
Whether you actually got one was up to the examiner, because they had a choice of what to give you.
I think it was 2 out of 3, and i got reversing round a corner and the so called 3 point turn.

Same here although my test was 19 years ago. I got the dreaded reversing round a corner up a hill....I've never used my mirrors as much as I did on that manoeuvre!

Because I said maybe they did. Although I don't believe that they did. More likely just to put people off leaving negative comments on their video instead of laughing with them. As surely a gent who offers a hand wouldn't then decide to film it and put it on YouTube IMO.

I have a sense of humour and can dish it out and take a joke on the chin. However I don't make fun of those that I do not know. It is harmless at the end of the day and I won't lose sleep over it. But if we actually stopped doing such stuff to one another perhaps the world would be a little bit better for it.

For example how would any of us feel if that was our Sister, Wife, or Mother? 9/10 of us wouldn't like it and most of us would probably try to assist in improving their standard of driving.

At the end of the day I don't find it funny. I think it's simple herd mentality and bullying.

I'm not going to disagree that it's awful driving.

Anyway I'm going on about it and it's suppose to be a light hearted thread for others to enjoy.

I passed mine in Jan '92 and it was 2 out 3. I got the same 2 as you but had spent plenty of time practising all 3.

They seem to spend more time on actual driving nowadays. An emergency stop is only done in every 1 in 3 tests (though in all extended retests) as too much time can supposedly be wasted whist driving to and from a suitable place.

With todays crowded streets and car parks I think that a parallel/bay park should be compulsory.

little of topic but I used my company's new pool car (vw passat) this week and it had auto parallel parking fitted so I thought what the hell lets have a laugh and see how crap it is........boy how wrong I was! Mighty impressed, repeated it three times and each time the parking was spot on.

Perhaps there should be a new law that all female drives are require to have a car fitted with auto parking
