What's the latest with the Servo 15?

Does anyone know whether we are ever likely to see them being sold again by Richer Sounds and at what price?

I'm sure it wasn't that long ago that I saw them being advertised in What HiFi.

It seems silly as I get the feeling that there are at least a dozen or so people on this forum who would snap one up if they became available again - I've added a poll so that we can see how many are interested.

I could send Richer an e-mail to see what the score is but I would imagine one or more of you has probably done so already.

    Matt.

I've just checked and it was even more recently than I thought - the May 2002 issue of What HiFi features Servo 15s at £499 in the familiar Richer Sounds advert.

r/s are still advertising missions 77 series speakers-which they haven't got, don't know how they get away with it, looks like sevenoaks have done it with the cyrus offer too.

Have you considered complaining to the mag which carries the add? They discourage the practice (well they claim they do).Might be interesting to see if they refuse to carry future adds :clown:  if enough complain.

the local richer branch say that even trading standards let them off as at least one of their branches had stock (one?) when the ad was placed, looks like it's not an easy one to prove-but it's still a lousy practise.

Well, the poll already shows that 12 people would hand over their £499.

So, if Richer could get their act sorted with Servo 15s they'd take six grand straight away just from the people on these forums!

Maybe I will drop them an e-mail to let them know what they are missing out on.

    Matt.

Okay - here's the e-mail I sent to the sales people at Richer:

"Dear Sirs, a quick query on the Paradigm Servo 15 subwoofer advertised in the May edition of What HiFi, listed at £499.

I understand you are presently out of stock of Servo 15s and rumour has it that you may not be able to get hold of them for some time.

I know for a fact that many people are interested in purchasing a Servo 15 from you at the advertised price - a poll I ran on the www.avforums.com website showed (within 24 hours) that 12 people would happily hand over their £499 to you in return for one of these subs - in other words, you would take £6,000 straight away just from the members of the avforums website.

Given this level of interest can you please let me know what the current situation is with the supply of Servo 15s to Richer Sounds - suffice it to say that should the supply dry up for good then a lot of people are going to be very disappointed.

I look forward to your reply and thank you for your assistance in this matter."

    And here's their reply:

    Dear Matt

    Thanks for the e-mail

I'm sorry but that unit has been discontinued and i am unsure if and when we will be getting it back in, if you would like to call are mail order dep't on 087001 12345 they may be able to offer you an alternative.

    Alan @ Richer Sounds

    So there we have it!

    Matt.

Those were my initial thoughts but I think what the guy is trying to say (rather badly) is that Richer have "discontinued" it - I say that because he adds "i(sic) am unsure if and when we will be getting it back in," so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt (which they don't really deserve).

I'm quite temped to ring the number he gave to see what alternatives they can offer to compare with a 400watt 15" sub that goes down to 17Hz +/-2dB!

We do know what to do. Thank him for giving so many of us an affordable start in AV.

Stuart Wright may also wish to add his personal thanks for bringing the delights of the Newcastle Sherwood range to these shores :D

Matt, have you considered approaching Paradigm with a view to secure a forums syndicate purchase? They may consider this if the order was of a sufficient size. Just thought.

The thought did cross my mind i.e. we get together, send them the money and they ship 16 subs over to us. Then I thought fine but what if, say, one or two are damaged and/or don't work or what if any of them develop faults in the first year? What would we do then - send them back to Canada etc?

What we really need is for Richer Sounds to get their act sorted and to start supplying them or for some other UK distributor to start dealing with Paradigm instead. The only worry with the latter is that the Servo 15 might start costing rather more than the bargain £499 Richer were charging for it.

It's a bu**er really - I mean, I sent that e-mail to sales@richersounds but that didn't seem to reach the right person - what we really need is an e-mail address for Richer's Sales Director or for Julian Richer himself.

Personally I think that you would be wasting your time. Richer Sounds are very successful box shifters who specialise in middle of the road mainstream products and probably have a turnover of tens of millions of pounds.

An extremely large subwoofer will be a very slow moving item and they probably don't sell that many and at £499 they probably don't make that much on it either.

I presume that the low price was to shift the last few on a "Once it's gone, it's gone" basis and you should really have bought them at the time.

Lynx is right and if you want them badly enough you should club together and approach Paradigm directly and assume all of the risks that you expect Richer Sounds to do.

Seems like we've been surfing on the same websites as I found Richer's Mr Halliday and have sent him a very similar e-mail to the one I sent to sales@richersounds. We'll see what happens.

As for buying from other European countries, I guess that's an option assuming there are no voltage differences with the units.

I guess one other line of enquiry if Richer can't supply them is to contact Paradigm and suggest they arrange a different UK supplier as there is a lot of interest in their Servo 15.

    Matt.

I contact Paradigm some weeks ago, with respect to their active speakers. I thought of buying them from another European country. They told me that I would be at my own risk as far as warranty is concerned. That warranties are not international and therefore anything bought in a country as to be serviced there!!!
Strange and a bit old fashioned in the year 2002!!

About the spanish language, I may be able to help, but I do not believe we will sort out our warranty problem that way.

    Bests.
