I notice that there is a SCART Terminal board which is specific to the Pany Series 8 Panels.

Anyone know how or why these are different to the Series 7 Boards?

The Series 7 SCART did not receive the greatest of respect (picture too soft) - is this what the Series 8 is addressing?

    Cheers,

    Nigel

I'd like to know that aswell.

BTW AV-Sales quoted me £130 for the SCART board for the PWD8 - special AVForums price!

Considering that they do not supply the Panasonic bundled S-Video/Composite board with their PWD8s - I can see where they are clawing back the money.

Has taken the shine of the PWD8 for me - now looking seriously at the Samsung HD PS-42S5H at JL with a 5 Year Warranty for £1599 (confirmed pricematch) before I go back to consideing the PWD8 !

I have always preferred the minimalist panel style - but when you have to add £100s to get the required interfaces - there's a limit to what I'll spend!!!

No info on this till we try it out, so not really anything to add. I'll bet the RGB/VGA box is still sharper, but this then uses up the free component input.

Having spoken to Panasonic on the scart boards they have said that the new board (TY-FB8SC) can be used with the 6 & 7 series screens and the older one (TY-42TM6TB) with the new screens. Not sure why there has been a code change therefore  Will try and seek further clarification whether there has been any change of spec.

Hi Alastair, The story goes it's a new spec, but whether cos they can't get a critical chip for the old one, or felt it needed updating, is not clear. Quite a few chips for various AV kit were made in Indonesia, and now can no longer be made there, at least in the short term. Onkyo have suffered this exact problem, new models from them are down to Tsunami damage, not specification change.

You would indeed expect the board to have had something changed otherwise why didn't they take the opportunity to change the codes on the other boards which can be used with the 8 series. I'm trying to get further info from UK technical in case they can shed further light on any tweaks they may have made or whether, as you say, it a case of same spec but different sourced components.

Alastair, did you ever get an answer from Panasonic?

Are you supplying the new TY-FB8SC SCART board now for the 8 Series panel?

Does anyone else know the differences between this new board and the old one?

    Gussie :)

    Morning Gussie

Panasonic Technical and our reps have confirmed that there is no difference between the 'old' scart terminal board and the new one which has just been given an updated product code. The improvement in performance does appear to be down the improvements in the 8 series processing. We have not had an opportunity to check this out ourselves but have had feedback from many clients to confirm there are very happy using the scart board.

Panasonic are now supplying the 'new' boards as stocks of the boards labelled under the previous code have now finished.

    Regards
