Hope you can help. I made the fatal mistake of retuning my Panny Plasma and ended up with BBC Wales and S4/C in stead of Channel 4. Trouble is I am in NW and dont want Welsh channels :thumbsdow

Is there any way I can screen these out and replace them with my NW channels where they are supposed to be. I.e Channel 4 is actually program '4' etc. Would turning the booster down on my aerial help before I retune.

I dont want to end up taking the set to a mates house just to tune the thinig in :suicide:

You can do one of two things. First is a manual retune to the known frequencies for the muxes in your area.

Second is a bit more "mechanical" as what's happened is your TV had picked up the Welsh transmitters first during its scan. This actually was quite common in the days before the NW had gone through DSO but Wales already had and was pushing out some quite high power signals - the Wirral was among the worst affected IIRC.

This case it might be because of the weather conditions but the way round it is to remember that the Welsh signals will be at the bottom of the spectrum (UHF channels 21 onwards) and the set used by your local transmitter will be higher. Do another full retune but disconnect the aerial until (if you have one) the tuning progress bar shows you have passed UHF channel 30. Then plug the aerial back in immediately. Ideally this should be by unplugging from the rear of the TV itself but if you use a fly lead to a wall socket or from another piece of equipment (like your booster?), disconnecting at the "non TV" end should be OK.

Before you rush into retuning, be aware that 18 transmitters in the northwest, including Winter Hill, will be having channel changes on 10 April which will require you to retune again.

The transmitters affected are:

Winter Hill
Darwen
Saddleworth
Bacup
Birch Vale
Whalley
Blackburn
Prestbury
Dalton
Haughton Green
Dog Hill
Skelmersdale
Mottram In Longdendale
Stavely In Cartmel
Austwick
Woodnook
Broadbottom
Whaley Bridge

I'm liking the idea of unplugging the aerial until past Channel 30. manual retune doesn't seem to help because I cant work out how to just retune one channel that's already in the memory. IE Channel 4 gives me S4/C but how do I actually retune the No4 Channel on its own?

You have to delete all your existing channels and start again.

If you can manual tune your Panny then that's the way to go - mine only auto-scans!!! Do not do an 'add channels' tune, but one that warns you you will lose all the existing stored channels..

NOTE The most likely transmitters are Moel-y-Parc and Winter Hill...

M-y-P transmits on 45, 39, 42, 51, 52 & 48
Winter Hill on 62->50, 59, 54, 58, 61->49 & 55 where the -> indicates the old->new frequencies to be used from 10th April.

It would be a difficult feat to plug an aerial in after ch52 but before ch54 in a scan... and it won't work after the 10th April as things become 'interleaved'. Reducing the gain on you aerial system amplifier might help - but, equally likely, it may not.

In the unlikely event you are not watching Winter Hil you can get the frequency channel info you may need from Digital UK - Missing channels or wrong news service?

You have not said which Panasonic model you are using, but taking one at random (TX-P50VT50B and P55 and P65) the instructions for manual tuning are on P61 of the handbook.

If you have lost the correct handbook you can probably download it via this page (selecting "Plasma Display Panel" for the Product Sub-Category under AV Products).

You would need to clear everything out first as others have said using an auto tune with no aerial then manually tune each of the frequencies (listed above if it is for Winter Hill). I am not quite of the exact situation with WH because of the local Mux which it carries for Manchester.

Thanks chaps. Unplugging the aerial at the start of the retune and plugginig it back in after a few seconds has actually sorted it. Back to normal - for now.

Mine is a TH42-PZ70 so a few years old. One of our newer TVs (not Pany) has a regional setting feature so it will prioritise NW channels
