    Folks

My Panny TH37PE50 , has just arrived :D
Wow , looks far bigger than in the Shop.......

It certainly takes a bit of getting used to the huge difference in size.
    Did have a 4:3 18" TV , mono.

If any body is interested it came from John Lewis , as part of Panny's
deal , with DVD Recorder .
5 Year Warranty on the Plasma , 2 on the DVD

Thanks to every one in the past , helping out with my stupid questions
I am sure I will be back with more in the future..

    Matt

Any chance of some pics?

Also, do you have the desk stand and if so can you tell me how wide (in cm) it is?

    Many thanks.

How much and did you get a stand of any sort? I'm trying to get the same thing from JL but only if I can get the deal I want!

    Hi there.

Glad to hear you are happy with the new purchase! My TH42PE50 arrived last week and loving it so far. In the middle of setting my system up at the moment with new speakers etc so have wires and cabling all over the place, but the plasma is lovely. Watched Team America on it the other night - fantastic picture, brilliant film. Well chuffed!

    Cheers

    Gavin

Quick question (can't find this on the panasonic we site). Does this model have a dual tuner for split screen functionality. I am thinking of this model, but need split screen so I can watch footy while the wife watches corrie :)

I am guessing you would have to use the tuner on your DVD recorder/VCR for the second tuner so then you could watch 2 sources at once.

Just checked the panasonic web site and it states that this panel has PIP/POP/PAT - PIP I can guess - picture in picture. What are POP and PAT?

So if I can figure this out - this model has split screen so for example I can play Xbox while the TV is on (screen split 50/50) ?

One is Picture out Picture, like PIP but the pic is at the side of the main one.
The other is split screen, both big pictures.

Sorry to say that the panny UK web site states quite a few things about the plama screens that are just not correct. The new TH42PE50 and TH37PE50 models do not have PIP/PAP/POP etc. The previous versions TH37PE30 and TH42PE30 did have this feature and the new HD models TH37PV500, TH42PV500 and TH50PV500 also have the feature. I guess it was dropped as a way to reduce the cost of the standard models.

    PIP - Picture in Picture
POP - Picture out of Picture (Think large image and small one next to it with some grey area)
PAP - Picture and Picture (two pictures of equal size side by side)
PAT - Picture and Text (teletext, replaces the 'mix' mode of earlier TV's)

The PE50 has a DVB digital tuner and an analogue tuner. Therefore you could watch one analogue channel and one digital one simultaneously or you could watch say AV1 and your choice of another AV input or DVB or analogue. I'm not sure if the PE50 is limited in the same way as the PE30 is but if so, then two inputs that can't be used with PIP/PAP/POP are VGA PC input (AV3PC) and component input (AV4C). However, Panny might have fixed this for the PE50.

*EDIT* Ahh didn't realise the PE50's had been stripped of this feature, my comments then stand for the PE30 and PV500 Vieras.

I have it in Normal mode , not Dynamic.

Note quite sure what the difference is between Cinema and Normal ?

    Hi all

I have had the 37PE50 for over 2 weeks now and im very happy with the PQ. ( had the LGpx11 but the PQ was crap, JL changed the set for the pe50)

It has been mentioned that it should be left in cinema setting while running it in, can someone please tell me why this is. Also what is the best way to connect the panny dvd.

    Thanks for your help.

hi if you connected sky via rgb in on the panny dvd recorder, then component to the plasma, would this make any difference pic wise.
    cheers.

    Hi,

I've had the th37pe50 for around 2 months now (very pleased) , best connection is from component - its the only connection that gives the 480 progressive display, and the pictures from DVD are noticebly sharper (to me at least) - and the dvd is the one that came with the package deal (DMR-ES10).
I don't think the dvd player upconverts from RGB - as remember the component output remains blank and the rgb signal is feed through on the scart connection - so component is only from DVD playback, however if recording then rgb input would probably be the best.

Recording from tv is a breeze over QLink, you can set up recording from the DVB TV Guide and whats more if recording to DVD RAM disc you can start watching the program you are recording before it has finished - ie you get hard disc style time slip playback.

Someone was asking about the pedestal base, it is sturdy and kind of diamond shaped (roughly 27"wide by 16" deep) and is the same one used for the 42" model.

I have mine in cinema all the time and its plenty bright enough - the dynamic looks way too tarty IMHO.

And finally there is no picture in picture apart from the teletext, I think the older model may have done this (pe30) and maybe the newer pe500s will.

    hope that helps
