Does anybody know of a better deal on the S97.............£210 +£10 P&P for a multi-region version...........from Hifi Confidential (phonecall).

    I know Unbeatable are doing it for £200 +PP.....but won't be multi-region.

    Cheers, Tam

Tam, I bought one just b4 xmas from digital direct and it was meant to be r2. I also purchased the gadget from dvdchips to modd it.
I paid £199 inc delivery for the player and 23.50 for the remote.
The player arrived and it WAS already multiregion! dd were quoting around 260 for this player.
I sent the remote back to dvdchips and got a refund, so the player only cost £199. This maybe a mistake by dd or they may have quoted me the wrong price of 260

    good luck!

think you got a good deal.......................phoned them yesterday along with sound and vision £249 and £259 multi-region for them both.

but pricerunner shows them at £189...............maybe an error.

    thanks, tam

I called both sound and vision and direct digital up on Tuesday and was told was in stock. By 7pm the price had gone up as you say even though pricerunner was down as £189. So called unbeatable and placed an order at 11am on Wednesday . Order was processed and delivered at 8am This morning. Can t wait to get home and give it a try now. But very happy with the delivery time.

Sorry to hijack this thread but does anybody know if the marblocking associated with this player would be noticeable on a regular widescreen tv connected via s-video or rgb,or is it more to do with larger displays?

have a check on pricerunner, froogle, kelkoo... I found one for 199 I think but in the end went for a more expensive, but quickly delivered one. The lead is about 1m IIRC.

Just received one from www.discountaudiovision.co.uk cost £204.99 + £9.99 p&p Multi Region. Ordered Tuesday arrived Friday (could have delivered Thursday). They're now quoting £208 and not MR (but in stock) - I guess these places must change their prices on a very regular basis depending on supply/demand

Just got a S97 to use with my Pio434HD via HDMI but I must admit I'm not too impressed. The pic quality at 720p or 1080i is no better than my other DVD players.

I can't say I have seen a big difference between the various resolution. I am using a panny ae700 pj. That's not to say that I am unhappy with the quality, but just not difference.

Could it be that my pj's and your pio434HD's scalers are just as good as the one of the player?

If the display isn't 1280x720 then you're still going to be using the 434's scaler (albeit to down-scale) which'll defeat part of the purpose of using the 97's scaler in the first place.
