Panny PW6 input options

Please be patient. This a long one.

I currently have the above screen. It is being fed by Sky Digital via RGB scart into scart input board. My DVD is then looped into the VCR scart scoket on the sky box. I am happy with the picture since i have not seen it via any other input other than RGB scart. no doubt there are other input options that may provide superior PQ but that is a whole page thread on its own.

I now want to add my old VCR to the system. Normally i would just use a 3 way scart auto switch and problem solved at a relatively low cost. This has created a new problem. I use a Harmony 655 remote to control all of my gear. The scart auto switching assumes that only one device will be on and all others off at any one time. I need to leave the sky box on permanatly because i watch sky in the bedroom via the sky magic eye thingy and if you start switching the sky box on and off upstairs it screws up the harmony because it does not know about the remote commands from upstairs. Also i can't watch sky upstairs and DVD downstairs.

So can anyone recommend a good quality scart auto switch that will not lose any PQ that i can effectivly use to "change scart channels" via an infrared remote control that my Harmony could mimic.

Thanks in advance.

Also as an after thought would i see a dramatic improvement in PQ if i used a JS scart to VGA converter in conjunction with the above Scart auto switch.

Ok Just looked at the Quintro switch box. Can anyone comment on how this compares to the Hitachi AV centre that argos are selling. On paper they both seem to of similar specification and both will do the job.

After reading through this forum it seems the JS RGB - VGA is a must.

Just bought a Quintro from the ubiquitous Av-Sales and it works perfectly.

I have a similar set up to you insomuch as my picture is provided from a Goodmans GDB2 freeview box and scarted through that is a Humax PVR - the one output lead goes to the Quintro as well as the DVD and then one RGB to the PW6 scart. This arrangement leaves me with another three spare scarts on the Quintro....

From what I have gleaned from previous threads the JS RGB/VGA thingy is very good but it costs £120 and improves the picture by about £10 worth ie: not a lot over the scart.

Thanks for the reply. Hehehe, are there any higher offers on the £10 improvement with the JS RGB - VGA?

Also any comments on the Hitachi box would be appreciatted as i can just go and pick one up today after work.

for people who bought a panel without scart the JS is ideal costs the same crisper picture, if you are happy with scart board go for a Quintro,

Daft question time mate (do you have a magic eye in bedroom?) can this not awake the box from its slumber?

Otherwise email harmony CS and ask them if the can can remove Sky off from your all off command...........

I do indeed have magic eye in bedroom and yes it can wake the sky box. The harmony setup wizard is also able to remove the sky box from the all off command nad i have done that already.

This setup only works if i were to use a box like the Quintro. I tried it with a couple of standard scart auto switches, but i sometimes end up with fuzzy vision cos both the DVD and Sky are powered up at the same time and all you see is both pictures just rolling about on the screen.

I am happy with the RGB scart picture. My only concern is that The Quintro or Hitachi boxes that i am considering will degrade the picture. If someone can confirm that there is only i minute or zero loss then i will go and buy the hitachi tonight.

never used the hitachi but many people are happy with Quintro and Plasma Argos have good returns policy so why not try it?

Sounds like a plan to me.

I'll get it done over the weekend and post the first Hitachi review here next week.

Nachos - the Sky box has a tendency to stomp over everything.... i don't now why but I can say the Quintro will probably solve all those ghosting issues - Buy cheap, buy twice!

ok i've read in here that Quintro can be bought for £60.00. Thats the same as the hitachi.

So before i make my final decision i will just check with Harmony to find out if either is supported or will i have to teach my remote everything manually.
