I read in a review (CNET & avsforum) that the consumer version of the PH6 Panny's do not have 3:2 Pulldown and that this is a serious deficiency.

Clearly I don't know what this pulldown means, but as I was about to buy the 50PHW consumer model I am concerned.

Can someone help by telling me if:
    1. the consumer model doesn't have this (while the industrial one does) ?
    2. whether this pulldown option is important

Do I need to go for the industrial model?

    Thanks,

    Neil

Pulldown is necessary to properly de-interlace material which was originally recorded on film. You want 2:3 recognition when playing back 60Hz material (R1 DVD's) You want 2:2 recognition when playinig back 50Hz material (R2 DVD's and our usual TV programming that was recorded on film, not video)

I've never spent any time with the consumer units so can't comment on that at all. I can say that the commercial ones do have an implimentation of film detection.

If you have a decent prog scan DVD player or an external video processor then whether the plasma has it or not is largely irrelevant. If you just have a prog scan DVD player and you watch alot of TV then you may want to reconsider your options if the reviews of the consumer models are true.

    Gordon,

Thanks for explanation. This sounds like an important feature for me. I wonder why the consumer model wouldn't have this!

Can anyone confirm or deny this ?

    Thanks,

    Neil

Could anybody who has or has experience with the Panny 50" consumer model please confirm or deny the reports on 2:3 pulldown?

    Thanks,

    Neil

It might be true on the US Models. The 2:3 pulldown is not mentioned anywhere in the manual. Neither in the Service Menu ( at least I didn't see it).

Can you confirm which model you are considering?

Panny Consumer covers a whole range of models :)

    Best regards

    Thanks for your replies.

I am looking to buy the TH50 PHW6 or TH50 PHD6 screen. I prefer the silver (so called consumer) model but only if it has the same features/performance as the black D model.

    Cheers,

    Neil
