After buying my first plasma last week, I have two questions :-

    1. I have an ordinary cheap scart going from my Sky+ box into the back of TV. Its a very good picture already, would a better scart make that much difference?

    2. The aspect switching is good, but I cant seem to get 'Panasonic Auto' on DVD. Why?

    Cheers

    Pete

Some DVDs forces the screen ito WIDE mode (leaving black bands top and bottom). There doesn't seem to be anyway out of this. Only trick is to put it into ZOOM1 mode. Love to know if there is another way.

Also, if you input the set with a PS signal you cannot switch aspect ratio at all!

I switched from a non-descript freebie cable that I used in frenzy to see a picture on my new toy over to a gold-plated contact better quality (about £25) cable and the picture was noticeably better.

I thought Sky was great on the old cable... it was much better on the new one.

So for 25£ its worht it!.

A good quality SCART should mean that you've not compromised your system.

Not sure about the Panasonic Auto function. How are you connecting in to the screen?

    All the best,

    John.

Just been and purchased new gold plated oxygen free scart leads from TC Hayes in Bearwood (Birmingham) and the guy that I know quite well there told me that I have bought a good set, but the PE30 is streets ahead! Especially in terms of picture quality and longevity of the product. Is this true, is there really that much difference????

    Cheers

I've not looked at the PE30 yet.

Put the VCR before Sky +, have Sky + going as direct as possible. Exception to this rule is if you've got a DVD recorder, where if possible you really want to have RGB going to it. If the DVD recorder support RGB input that is.

I was in Birmingham on Friday at the motorshow. A whole day at the show, and there was still more to see!

    All the best,

    John.

So I now have two gold scarts and one ordinary scart. One gold from DVD to Plasma. One from Plasma to VCR (not recordable DVD BTW) then the ordinary scart from VCR to Sky+ ? Sorry if I sound a bit thick mate.

    Cheers

    Pete

I'd use the ordinary SCART from the VCR connection of Sky to the VCR. TV output from Sky should go via the good SCART to the screen. DVD is fine.

    All the best,

    John.

How can someone say the PE30 is going to live longer than another series 6 panel?. I thought they were all series 6 panels inside and unless the PE30 has got gold plated everything and double-redundant doo-dahs then its not better or worse.

The Pe30 has been out for about 3mths +/- , the series 6 has been around for a lot longer and they're both the same (arent they?).

Pe30 may well be around longer in marketplace because its a consumer oriented shot - the other /previous panels are a bit harder to live with as a consumer.. my granny/(kids) can turn the volume up /down on my pe30 but she/they wouldnt have hunted for the amplifier remote to do that on a non-integrated system.

I did read that the PE30 was less susceptible to requiring re-gassing as result of solar flares in particular during the transit of venus.
