Can anyone please tell me if the panasonic NVMX500 camera does true 16:9 anamorphic. I've had it with stretching my images to fit my screen so I started looking 'round for an affordable(<£1400) true 16:9 cam and came up with this panny and the Sony DCRTRV33 so if anyone can confirm if either of these actually 16:9 that would be great.

    Regards,

the sony I know is not completely true 16:9 but close to it however it definitely is not the same letterbox mode you had with previous models.

    Hi
As far as I know, the MX 500 does have True 16:9 format (not the cut-and-stretch the others have.) But I don't own one yet, so I dont know for sure.
    Maybe someone else can confirm?

Thanks guys. It looks like the sony does do real 16:9 judging by what sony's websites say's, but, I would still prefer to go for the panny due to me being very impressed with their built quality and it having 3CCD chips.

So can any MX500 owners confirm or deny it has true 16:9, please ;) :D

    Cheers,

Yes, it does true widescreen. In a document I found released by Panasonic Australia (with a Panasonic product manager's name on it), the following is quoted:

"Conventional wide-screen modes are achieved by applying a vertical zoom to the normal screen, which lowers vertical resolution by 25 per cent. The NV-MX500 provides wide-screen images directly with its high-resolution CCD, preserving vertical resolution for a superior picture."

Is that the answer? Although I own an MX500, I haven't bothered with the widescreen mode yet, because I'm still using a 4:3 TV!
