Thanks so much to everybody on this forum for the last few months' reading, which has brought me to this point - standing in my living room with a 42PWD7 in the middle of the floor, wondering how I'm going to mount it on my own... ;)

Very excited! My Mission V63 speakers have also arrived today, and I can't wait to hook it all up. Now I just need a decent DVD player that has component outs (come on, Pioneer, get that budgete 585 in the shops...) :D

By the way, the Van Damme component cables look awfully thin - is that normal? I thought a thicker wire would be higher quality...

OK, enough celebrating, time I got down to work! Thanks again to everybody!

I'm really tuned off the PV500 because of the threads. Might get a Hitachi 7200 just to be different. Panasonic are turning into BMW. Good but common.

Well, that's just silly. Would you seriously but a lesser product just because it's not the common thing? I'm not saying the PV500 is the best, I don't have one, so no bias here. Just wondering if you would seriously cut off your nose to spite your face in terms of not taking the popular route.

Also seen a few magazine reviews now that rate the panny quite highly, so it looks like there is more than just forum hype to this screen.

I'm waiting untill nearer the Xbox 360 release, when I'll actually have need of a hi-def screen. At that time, I'll buy what seems to be the best even if it is owned by a million others.

    phd8 is a good shout.

i still don't know which would be better for a HTPC setup, the 7200 or the 500.

7200 is just as good for a few hundred quid less.

home theater pc, basically a computer you use to store films and/or watch tv through. can also be used to scale films to HD resolutions, and as a PVR.

agreed, finally got my pwd7  very pleased with it, got fed up with all this HD talk, sky looks great and dvd are amazing, i own around 200 sd dvds so did not feel the need for a HD plasma, plus HD sky broadcasts are most likely to be crap yank shows anyway. :D

Home Grooming Pedo Computer, sorry that's HGPC.

Home Theatre Personal Computer Systematic Machine (HTPCSM) to give it the full name. They let you watch porn on your Panny. PannyPorn.

Yes yes! I have mastered the technological mysteries of fitting the input board and putting RF plugs on a coax lead for a TV signal. But deciding which spacers to use on the stand is currently defeating me.

I'll do the photo thing, but it's gonna look lame compared to some of the set-ups on the boards. I'm no DIY master. I'm just sticking it on a low table for now.

I can't wait to get this little beauty running. I had to just stare at it for 10 minutes to savour the thrill. Am I haven't even plugged it in yet...

I had the same thought re HD/SD, and Panny p0rn will doubtless look great either way. By way of experiment, I downloaded some HD trailers to try out on my lappy (which has a WUXGA 1920x1200 screen), but the processor couldn't cope with the load. PM1.6.

When my wallet's recovered from this week's excesses, I might have to look into an HTPC set-up...

Yeh agree, a few people have bought the PV500 and have really gone off on one like they've never seen a plasma before ?? PHD7 running HD was pretty not much different so being PV500 I can't see the fuss.

The Hitachi 7200 ain't bad either. These new breed of panels by manufacturers are oh so close at the moment :)

A lot of people like me, this is thier first plasma and have never really seen a decent demo.
I saw the new fujitsu a few weeks ago at Av-Sales, he played some films through the plasma and through a high end scaler.
The set wasn't calibrated and they were just running it in, but TBH I think the PV500 looks more colourful.
I also saw the Pioneer next to it and that looked crap with the same feed (HDMI, Sky etc), the fujitsu was a lot more 3D like, pioneer a bit flat.
I may have been sitting a bit too close for a 50" but I will be getting Gladiator out and comparing as this is the film he was demoing the scaler with.

There are too many threads at the moment, there should be 2 threads, one for prices/where to get it from and a general one. Then at least people know where to look for answers. Maybe the moderators should post a Skicky instructing this.

I will interested to know the opinions of HD, MAW etc when they have had a good play with the PV500, especially the 50", to see if it really as good as people are saying.
But it is obvious with the amount of thread that people are generally very happy with this plasma and a lot of people are now taking the plunge.

I reckon, that when the PHD8 comes out there will be a lot more talk about it because:

    1. There will a lot of PW6/7 owners ready to upgrade
    2. HD DVD players/Xbox 360/Sky HD will be getting close so more interest in HD screens
    3. The panel is the more prefered option for most hardcore plasma lovers (including me)

Anyway, still loving my PV500 and will have a chance to watch a few DVD's on it cos I'm off til next Weds
